Wow, yeah, I'm really offering a lot of weird personal info to say that I enjoyed the Holidays without watching these sad sacks. That's so deep and personal!! Earth to whoever you are....Giroux hasn't played center for the Flyers in quite sometime until it recently became necessary. There is a reason for that. He's better served on the wing at this stage of his career. I'm not sure he's ever been a true #1 center in the NHL. He just isn't physical enough! This is why he disappears come playoff time. His only success in the playoffs came in 2010 when he was the third line center and in the 2012 series against the Pens when the Pens just decided to out score the Flyers and play no defense. Thanks again! - Phillywhiteout

I’m so sick of the hindsight argument of the second overall pick. Everyone here wanted Nolan Patrick. Everyone. Anyone who says they didn’t is lying. We wanted Patrick so much so, most of us were praying that Nico Hischier went to the Devils first. This constant hanging on to what happened four years ago is so sad considering many in here would have done the same thing. - SuperSchennBros
So was it the right decision? A simple yes or no will do. |

When is paper machete glass chandelier man Ryan Ellis going to start playing hockey? - PLindbergh31
Come on now, you know he has never had groin issues before. Every other part of his body has been damaged causing him to miss games, but never his groin so he is not injury prone!! |

No, it’s a matter of knowing that nobody can see in the future. Not every pick is a home run, no matter what round the pick is taken at. |

And yet when drafting that’s exactly what Hextall was being paid to do…. Taking the player who you think is the best for the future….you could have stopped with your first word. They simply blew the pick. |

The team’s identity is a reflection of the captain, which is why the rest of the team is awful. No defense, no puck control, no physical play, no intensity, no heart, gutless. Happy collecting his 8 million & calling it a day. Very few players on the team show consistent effort (MacEwen, Risto, Brown) everyone else is hit or miss. Why is that? Are the Flyers super unlucky & have the only team in the league with effortless players or does the captain not work hard so why would any one else. He’s created a clubhouse atmosphere. Most likely you’ll be in denial but a decade worth of evidence should be enough to see the truth. But wait let me guess it’s the coaching, the systems, the GM, the scouts, the cable guy. Heartless gutless team. - Fopa21
lol ok 2Real...
whether you think he's a great player anymore is whatever but to say Giroux collects his paycheck and doesn't really care or doesn't play hard or with heart is just wrong.
Dude leaves it on the ice every shift, even if he has lost a step with age. It's very clear that losing drives him crazy and that he cares immensely about winning in philly. |

on one hand I understand that you are supposed to draft the best available player regardless of need. a lot of teams would have chosen patrick. however, I remember seeing that injury history right before the draft and was...shocked. that said, would I have still taken patrick? maybe, there certainly would be pressure to. but when your scouts come back and say "yeah i know everyone says they gotta have this kid and seems like a slam dunk but i'd go with Makar or Heiskinen" IDK that seems like your scouts are actually watching the games and maybe i'd listen to them. |

It’s embarrassing that he see’s the ice every night with the way he’s played. For a team to put an individuals record (that had no previous ties to the team) over what’s best for this year is unconscionable. The record is somewhat diminished when you consider the player he is passing…a guy that not only stayed healthy but DESERVED to be in the lineup every night. - landros 2
Totally fair criticism. What is worse is that we apparently promised to let him break the record here. Trading him know could hurt us with future FAs. Pretty bone-headed decision by our GM. When we start a team with so many marginal players, I am a little surprised that people are upset with this outcome. Our lineup last night is not going to beat a lot of NHL teama unless our goalie pulls the game out. Chuck needs to bring some of the youngsters up. Let’s see what Sushko and Ratcliffe and the Swede can do. Also, let’s see Honigberg and Zamula. Bring lycksell over too.

No one could have foreseen what has happened to this kid. If you want to say they blew it (and be a Monday am QB, or whatever the NHL equivalent of a QB is), then admit that 3/4 of the rest of the league likely makes the same “mistake.”

Actually thought the Flyers as a team played better than the previous 2 games, but tonight Jones didn't keep them in the game as well as he has in previous games, and once again the Flyers just can't finish their looks when they get them. One example is after yet another crap 2nd period by the Flyers (which has got to be figured out BTW because this just defies logic), the Flyers come out dominating zone time and puck possession in the 3rd period, and yet LA gets one 2-1 break and the puck is in the net, essentially icing the game. This is the stark contrast between the Flyers and most teams. The Flyers have to work so hard to get chances but have no skill to finish them, while other teams get one turnover, use their speed to generate an odd man rush and use their skill to finish the play off. Just another data point for Fletcher to determine its time to sell, and sell aggressively.
BTW, Connauton showed why he was a waiver pickup last night. - jd250
The two on one was not generated by the Kings speed. It was generated by the Flyers stupidity. They have no balance in the offensive zone. Connauton has the puck at the point. All 3 Flyer forwards are on his side of the ice. Connaughton throws a cross corner dump in to nobody. It acts as an outlet pass for LA. Yandle for all his experience, bites on the puck and a simple chip puts the puck past him for a 2 on 1. It's not speed or skill for LA. It's a 2 on 1 gift wrapped by the Flyers.

Glad I didn't watch!! Guess Giroux is everyone's hero cause he had a half decent game. He is a third line center at best on most teams these days, but on this sad sack team he ranks as the best with coots hurt. Talk about no depth. It's painful watching Hayes skate....talk about a turtle on skates. Four more years of this crap from him!! Joy to the world!! - Phillywhiteout
I get the frustration but the comments on Giroux continue to be asinine. He's on pace for 28 goals and 46 assists for 74 points and he's doing that playing on a bad team. Yet he's a 3rd line center at best on most teams.

News flash. Giroux has been playing center about 50% of time all season.

I agree the turnover was not caused by the Kings speed, and I didn't post anything to say otherwise. What I posted was once the turnover occurred the Kings, Arvidsson, used his speed to generate the 2 on 1 and then made a nice pass for any easy finish. Yes Connauton made a stupid dump, Yandle a stupid pinch and then Connauton got back into the play but played it terribly by not cutting off the pass across. Still, I have ZERO confidence that if the Flyers had received that turnover they would have finished it as well as LA did. |

Free agents care about fit, opportunity, term and money. Whatever the Flyers did with Yandle wouldn't mean a dam thing towards future free agency.

I agree, Giroux is having a good year, though I still want him to shoot the puck a lot more. The problem is not Giroux, its that Giroux is your best forward. As good as Giroux has been, he is not a top player in the league, that is the issue for the Flyers. That is why they need to sell aggressively, draft as high as possible over the next two years and hope they can augment their team with true top players. |
