Pach's brought up some good stuff awhile back, can't remember what reporter it was but said that the AHL is tough on goalie's cause it so haywire, and not in sync. Where the NHL is more set plays, quicker and better passing. UPL seems to be more comfortable in the NHL
- Buff36

It was Don Stevens. A lot of players in the AHL are learning the game and don't know what they're doing or what they're supposed to do.

Ok the 1st place team in the league is only because of a goalie, that’s how hockey works.

He’s had a nice group of games here overall
It’s a small sample size though, so we’ll see how it all works out

I did supposedly hear he was a “bust” after all 🤣🤣🤣

How does football work?
Do teams sit their star QB when the division is on the line?
Just curious,
bc that dumba$$ question was brought up the other day by someone

Why’s that?

I’m not the one questioning whether or not we should sit Allen for some dumb reason

To wrap it back to the point I'm making: It's not as easy as saying the Oilers should make the moves Drury did.

Why? Neither Adam Fox nor Igor Shesterkin are walking through that door for the Oilers, which makes their job much more difficult then just making depth signings and trades.

Too many ppl (especially here) think they’re know-it-alls & being a GM is apparently an easy task

I mean…. Drury did inherit a start goalie & stud defenseman,
Why can’t the Oilers find that?
Maybe EDM should just trade Kassian for a stud goalie or defenseman?
He was a former 1st round pick, so that’s gotta have value….
right?!?! 🤣🤣🤣

They have good D prospects along with Nurse, they do not have a good goalie, which is why Ullmark would be a good move for them.

Their role players stink, could it be bad environment, poor coaching, no chemistry, just bad players (most likely the case)? Are the rangers role players that much better?

What the Oilers do have that the Rangers do not have is McDavid, with a good goalie and competent defense the Oilers can be playoff caliber.

Give McDavid a great goalie and that is dynasty level.

2021 calendar year:

Kyle Okposo - 67 GP, 34 points, 0.51 ppg

Eric Staal - 53 GP, 13 points, 0.25 ppg. 0.31 ppg with Buffalo
Taylor Hall - 79 GP, 47 points, 0.59 ppg, 0.51 ppg with Buffalo

Raise your hands if you believed after the ball dropped for 2021 that Kyle Okposo would have a better box score than Eric Staal and similar to Taylor Hall.

Gotta root for Okposo. He’s a solid dude and didn’t just take his paychequeueuecolour and go home

I am genuinely surprised you didn't throw a jab at Staal/Stahl/Stalll because you expected him to crumble

The Rangers also have good defense prospects and Drury inherited Trouba from the 2019 trade.

The age of the Rangers defense aside from Trouba (27) is 23, 23, 23, 21, 21, 21.

What the Oilers do not have is arguably the best defenseman in hockey in Adam Fox, which is a massive difference between the 2 teams.

Okposo has actually been playing well for us, in his defensive role, for a few years now
It’s the points coming back this season that have been the surprise
Nice added bonus

Is the below true...?

Here's something totally bonkers: If the Colts lose to the Jaguars Sunday, the Raiders and Chargers would both get in with a tie. Literally, there would be no motivation for either team to do anything other than kneel it out 15 times each.

Maybe Irwin helped with that puck to the jaw, knocked something back into place. But really ever since Donnie took over Okposo has looked different.

Drury did inherit a good system but it lacked grit, he went out got it. They went from talented but soft middle of the road team to 1st this season. Gallant and co. have proven success…so far.

I’m not or haven’t argued that having great goaltending and a great defenseman do not help, I’m actually arguing for the Oilers to mimic it.

The Oilers should try to obtain:

Good goalie: Ullmark, Shesterkens don’t grow on trees but this is a realistic player that could dramatically improve the team.

They would have to move celery around which is how the Sabres could take advantage of the situation.

Better D players: Montreal/Kraken have a few, RNH or Yamamoto should be on the trade block

More defined role players, the difference between the 1st and 4th lines are too dramatic.

The GM should identify what the team needs to maximize the utility of his players, I believe Drury did a great job in that aspect. The Oilers need to improve, Holland has moved too incrementally, should be more aggressive.
