Hmm. Maybe, just maybe, it has to do with the amount of D zone starts he gets. Maybe the fact he kills penalties as well. - Load Management
He doesnt have more dzone time than OEL or Hughes, not sure if that holds up. Hes having his best year here, theres an argument to be made its cause he gets to play with oel. Who never gets much love on here. |

Well, you' re not quite there Hughes has 37.4% and Myers has 51.7%. OEL has 52% which makes sense since he's partnered with Myers in a shutdown pairing.
Myers also has more points and a better plus minus than OEL and makes far less.

21. Vancouver’s Oliver Ekman-Larsson is the only player to be on-ice for more than 500 minutes at 5v5 and fewer than 10 goals against (9).

Myers doing an excellent job of propping him up. |

Riddle me this: Myers was here last few years and gargled balls. OEL comes in and now Myers is propping him up?! The logic is stunning. |

Canucks have given up 15 goals in the last 9 games. I am fine with the back end and over all play. |

I think you're just having a hard time believing that a dman of Myers' age can change up his game, but that's exactly what's happened. I don't think he's carried OEL though, but he's been the better of the two in my opinion, but like I said, I like judging dmen based on how they defend off of the rush and how well they create rush chances with zone exits and breakout passes, there's where Myers has been good. His in-zone defensive play is still inconsistent, I can agree with you there.
Last year Myers rated very low in allowing opposing forwards to just walk across the blueline with the puck which was a much bigger issue since it's been shown that allowing controlled zone entries leads to goals. Forcing dump-ins or even turnovers is how you win games, especially with the game being so speed-based these days. Your goalie has a better chance at saving a shot generated from the cycle compared to off the rush.
I think I read somewhere that something like 55-60% of goals are scored within the first 7 seconds of zone time. Basically goalies are much better against the cycle than they are against the rush |

I think hes benefitting from playing with a more solid partner that covers up his weak points. Nothing wrong with that, that what you wants pairs to do. Just pointing out he hasnt played this well until OEL and its worth noting. |

I suspect OEL is propping up Myers but Myers has also been on a really good stretch. And it’s been going on for 10 games |

I agree he has been really good under BB. Except that last game, he was brutal against the Kraken |

Both been good. It doesn't have to be one or the other propping. They have chemistry.

I remember this one coach I had, me and my d partner I had for twenty games gave up 5 goals five on five and scored a ton in 20 games and he came into the room and said time to split up the twin towers lol, we both looked at each other in shock, the other pairings were getting eaten alive so he wanted to even it out, but frank man that was fun we had some serious chemistry. |
