Canucks Army making a decent argument on why you don't trade Petey now. Keeping a realistic return in mind of course...
https://canucksarmy.com/2...-moving-elias-pettersson/
They use the same examples I did a few days ago. The Sedins and Miller. - boonerbuck
A few names in there. Huberdeau broke out at 25, Sean Couturier as well.
The Jack Eichel situation is a great example. He’s a near-generational talent, and what did the Buffalo Sabres get back for him? A late first round pick. A middle-six player. A prospect who, at best, becomes a much lesser 1C.
I would say the Canucks best option would be to just play with him and get the players signed at reasonable contracts and draft.
Draft a defender with the first round pick this year. Try and acquire a 2nd round pick and develop the players that are in the system. Pick up a few college free agents. |

Nope. If I thought Dahlin was on track to be a Hedman type Dman absolutely move Petey for him. But 40 point dmen are a dime/dozen in the league moving Petey for that makes zero sense. May as well have kept Edler lol I'd be more inclined on Chycychrun to be honest but even that is a hard no. If it was Chychrun ++ I'd look at it. Chychrun's trending way better than Dahlin was before ARZ hit the skids this year. Kid just needs a fresh start.
Petey is having a Hughes type off year IMO. Give him the benefit of the doubt to bounce back. - LordHumungous
Lol. Your takes on everything are just…wow. |

You and I have clearly different ideas of top D then because yes you can have too many top Dmen. There are only so many minutes in a game.
Not to mention by the time you acquire all these top D, you will be paying for most of them and the team starts to look like San Jose.
Carolina traded away Faulk and hasn't lost a step. Nashville looks better than ever after trading Ellis. STL still one of the best teams after losing Pietro.
The Oilers are paying the same amount as Carolina for defence.
Football and hockey are very different sports. - manvanfan
OK. When we get near that tipping point of having too many top dmen I will agree with you.
SJ traded for large contract Dmen like Karlsson and gave other dmen way to much.
Carolina added Hamilton (yes and let him go) after Faulk and look at their D core its stacked.
and the rest... we can argue forever.
I didn't coin the phrase "defense wins championships" and since we never have won a championship, maybe we should try it?
And as for Football and Hockey being different sports...well ya, but do you build a hockey team from the wings in? |

I could find lots of brainless comments on why the Canucks need to trade him. The world doesn't center around your point of view. - boonerbuck

Why do you think the post I made was about you? Even after I point that out you still think it's about you... you are nowhere near as relevant on here as you imagine.

Defence wins championships in hockey is 3 forwards and 2 D, not 5 D.
Carolina had Hamilton, Faulk, Pesce, Slavin. Now they have Slavin, Pesce and Skjei, are a different team now, plus a decent goalie now.
Van's defence can definitely get better. Schenn in the top 4 long term or Myers and OEL playing as top pairing is also a no.
Finding a stronger partner for Hughes than Schenn or Hamonic should be looked at in the draft this year. |

You responded to my post and I quote "The world doesn't center around your point of view."
So it wasn't responding to me...
I don't care if you think my posts are relevant at all Booner. I'm on here to have a laugh and discuss hockey.
As a wise man once said...

You forgot De Angelo. point machine this year, and Bear is a good depth 3 pair for sure.
And we agree on the Canucks D needing to get better |

That's a good dice roll on Nylander. They have the Malkin coming back and with top C's and always a lack of wingers, maybe he can produce. |

Took 5 seasons for former Hart winner Henrik Sedin to break 66 points. A player that struggled to stay on his feet and took the same brainless flak from the fan base as Petey. - boonerbuck
Bull sh!t. “Brainless flak?” If anything, Elias deserves far more criticism. He is getting way less than the Sedins and deserves far more |

I wouldn't look at trades unless we go cold again...
But...if we fall out of playoff hope I'd consider this:
To Colorado:
- JTM
- Hamonic (if he waives, which he might for colorado + retain a little)
- Rathbone
To Canucks:
- Alex Newhook
- Erik Johnstone (1 year left at 6M)
- Bowen Byram
- another small cap dump
This almost assures SCF for the Avs |

Yep. it was merciless with the Sedins for years. are way more derogatory as well. Plus the Sedins owned their shortcomings, said they would try harder, and worked on their games. Not saying Petey isn't working on things, i'm sure he is, but the Sedins were way more personable and seemed to own it more. |

Sedins worked hard and significantly improved both their strength and endurance. Petey did crack and smoked two packs of Camels a day this summer. |

Dahlin is on pace for about 55 points on...Buffalo
And as far as Petey, don't you need to have a great season to bounce back to? His BEST is 66 points! If he "bounces" back to that, keep on bouncing to the airport. - carsonagenic
Dahlin does look to be finally improving this year on pace for maybe 50 points if healthy.
Chychrun is his best year 2021 was 18-23 for 41 points over 56 games. Pretty good pace which we have not seen from Dahlin as of yet. Chychrun could have potentially been 65 + points in 2021 in a full season. Dahlin 'might' get there I think he tops out at around 45-50 unless he magically turn into Hedman which many here think he is |

Unless you are adding Demko to that trade, I would say that isn't a lock. |
