Ellis has already missed 28 games, with a return nowhere in sight. This is year one of the contract.
Why didn't Fletcher just sign Dougie Hamilton? - PLindbergh31
What makes you think he had any interest in signing with the Flyers?

Let's Go Boys!
About all of the injury withholding, it's not about WHY Nashville wanted to trade Ellis, it is more about HOW they were able to. Due to NHL rules, they could hide injuries. Our media didn't know what injury kept Ellis out last season. I'm sure teams ask other teams before a trade, but are they required to disclose prior to a trade. I know they can look at medical records, I think.
Did we get suckered?
Just a thought. I could be wrong and teams have to disclose all information prior to a trade. |

Exactly. Anyone still wonder why Nashville was willing to trade a legitimate top pairing RH defenseman for Myers and Patrick? - MJL
Can you provide your 5 years away plan. Thanks in advance.

He signed with the Devils. So a contending team wasn't important to him. Outside of money why did he sign with the Devils? Newark, NJ is tough to beat as far as destination.

well, hextall is his idol, so you should make it a 12 year plan like good old ronnie had.

Doesn't answer the question. Devils more recent winning tradition.

He says they are 5 years away from making any noise. That very well may be true. Though I want to heart his plan in terms of what he does with the current roster.
Seeing many "core" players have expiring deals in the next few years. While several will be shells of their former self. Do you move these players now or in the next year? |

It would be nice to know what, exactly, is the issue. Is it career threatening? Should surgery
be considered? I just don’t get what the secrecy is accomplishing. - BiggE
agree, in the information world they have to know fans want info. It is not like other teams care or would target the injury upon return, that was the old days.

I think they were trying to address 2 RHD in the top 4. Hamilton would have priced that out.

I am sure trade involved examining all medical records in great detail, and was contingent on the medical examination of our own doctors.
Nashville was changing their core players. The only thing I can think of that might be sketchy is: if their doctors were of the belief that Ellis might have reached a stage of his career where his body was just more injury prone than normal. This is a subjective judgment afaik, and more than can be gleaned from exam of records.

Nice crisp winter day outside here in Philly.
I have almost forgotten what winter is like, so I relish every day below freezing temperature that I can. |

Problem is, his core players (from last blob) are supplementary players in any contending team. |

I miss the guy who is an actual surgical doctor. Can't remember his handle. "Mark"/"Marc" something? Whatever happened to him? - Bendecko
Actual "surgical" doctor? That is Marc D. He is an ER doc, not a surgical guy. I wonder if he is still out in Wash State.

that doesn't matter really in this exercise. If 5 years away then they need to be moved no? Since their contracts up in a few years.

I have no doubt that the Flyers medical team looked at his recent medical reports on injuries before agreeing to the trade. There is no doubt in my mind that Nashville was concerned about his ability to stay healthy over the life of the remaining contract. There is also no doubt in my mind that the same injury and reliability concerns sacred off much of the league. Normally a really good RH top pairing defenseman would fetch more than they got in the deal. That's speculation on my part but I'm confident in those beliefs. |

Hard to argue this point now, clearly this could not have been something new, but to hear he has made little progress in rehabbing it? What the heck does this mean? What has Ellis been doing these past several weeks? If rest and exercise is not getting it done, then clearly there is a bigger issue here that needs to be addressed. I agree with others that the secrecy has got to stop around Ellis. The team is going no where anyway this season, might as well be transparent and get him fixed up for next season. |

I love cold weather.
Twenty two years ago, when I was but a wee kid of 30 years age, and winters here were winters, I used to go running/to Gold's Gym in my shorts throughout the year.
One day, I hear this girl out loud from a neighbor's house. "Mommy! It's that man! And he is wearing shorts again!"

I’m sure he is just being treated by McCrossin and his GP. |

Its sound speculation. Still I make that trade any day of the week and twice on Sunday, it was worth the risk IMO. I think Ellis will eventually be OK, perhaps he just needs a year off. |

So you don't think the cap hit was an issue for many teams? You like to use cap hit for other scenarios.
