Hard to argue this point now, clearly this could not have been something new, but to hear he has made little progress in rehabbing it? What the heck does this mean? What has Ellis been doing these past several weeks? If rest and exercise is not getting it done, then clearly there is a bigger issue here that needs to be addressed. I agree with others that the secrecy has got to stop around Ellis. The team is going no where anyway this season, might as well be transparent and get him fixed up for next season. - jd250
The secrecy is just a fan gripe and has nothing to do with much. If there is a major development such as he is getting close to playing or if they change treatment. Such as opting for surgery, they'll let us know. I don't need to know anymore than what they just told us. Which is he is not progressing well and is not close to playing. I have no need for knowing what the specific injury is. |

I have no doubt that the Flyers medical team looked at his recent medical reports on injuries before agreeing to the trade. There is no doubt in my mind that Nashville was concerned about his ability to stay healthy over the life of the remaining contract. There is also no doubt in my mind that the same injury and reliability concerns sacred off much of the league. Normally a really good RH top pairing defenseman would fetch more than they got in the deal. That's speculation on my part but I'm confident in those beliefs. - MJL
It was surprising then, and perhaps, less surprising now.
But I wouldn't be so quick to blame the Flyers here. Its not so easy to hide medical issues these days. The kind of medical 'pulling of the wool' over the eyes is really hard to do nowadays. Essentially, they Flyers medical staff would have gone over even his Tylenol intake for the past 5 years.

I don't believe that any kind of medical "pulling of the wool' over the eyes was done. I figured it out when they made the deal. It's real easy and obvious to blame the Flyers.

Nice crisp winter day outside here in Philly.

Why can’t they just be straight with us re Ellis?
The b.s. secrecy about injuries is infuriating - BiggE
I am beginning to think that Nashville was at least aware of Ellis' issues. Thus perhaps answering the question that has been asked over and over. Why did they trade him for such a minuscule return?

No seriously.
I have a high threshold for cold. And hot weather makes me bloody irritable.
I never wear a sweater. If it is in the twenties (like today), I wear a shirt/tshirt and a winter jacket, but I don't button up. If it in the teens, I button up. Never gloves or scarf. After my hair started falling, a reluctant hat, usually stuffed into sidepocket after 30 mins of walking.
Often, I am the sole person sitting outside a restaurant in their outdoor sitting area.
Many years, my wife and I would go to Montreal over winter break. That's serious cold. Some less than zero F. Then I would need to wear specialized winter garb..

True.
Personally I love the cold. I love to ski and have warm clothes, what is not to love? Plus its great to sleep in. I can always add another blanket. |

It's pretty easy to keep yourself warm outside in winter if you want to. Impossible to keep yourself cool in summer.

Yep. I have scheduled a trip next week to a smaller mountain (Montage)and have been exercising trying to strengthen myself. Gonna stay on the bunny slopes to see if I can work up the courage to go bigger lol.

IMO there are many reasons. Sure they are aware as he has been there his entire career. Seems like Ellis issues are all new ones though, not re-injuries. So how do you interpret his medical history?
1. How many teams could fit him under the cap?
2. Once you find out how many teams, which ones had small contracts to offer back that Nashville would except?
3. Of those contracts which players did they like the most?

Well, there is at least one more innocuous explanation. Ellis was a 31 year D, good but not elite, with injury issues. Signed for a very long time (6 more years!). At a pretty significant cap hit.
In the post-Covid age, not many teams willing to take that on. |

Some good prospect news, Jay O'Brien returned from injury, that kept him out almost the entire month of Dec, on new year's eve and collected 2 assists in a 5-1 BU victory. There is still plenty left to the season but JOB needs to stay healthy to hopefully get on a roll and start to build momentum for his career. He has only played a handful of games this season so far because of injury. |

Agreed - no such thing as bad weather with the right gear. That said, winter/cold is my least preferred season.

Exactly. Anyone still wonder why Nashville was willing to trade a legitimate top pairing RH defenseman for Myers and Patrick? - MJL
All this deal did was show how much of a sucker Fletcher is. The deal wasn’t a wash. Nashville could disregard anything they got in return in those deals because both players make pocket change. Ellis is a heavy deal nobody should want.
Also there are a lot of people still complaining 4 and half years later that Hextall chose Patrick as the second overall pick. These same people can’t find it in themselves to see that trading for Ellis was a worse decision. |

Honestly, when was the last time we were lucky?
Last year, if we didn't have a truncated season, our trajectory after the first month carries us squarely into the realm of a top 7 pick. I am sure they don't trade that for Risto.
Year before, we draw the two clubs we had trouble against in regular season: Habs and Isles.I could go on.
As for individual players, where do I start. Desjardin and his kid? Foppa and his foot? Primeau and his conky? Pronger and his eye? Morin? Patrick? Allison?
All I can think of is drafting Giroux at that position and our draw in the 2010 playoffs.

Despite living down here so many years and having my blood thinned out because of it, I can tolerate the cold (with the right clothes and especially the whole mattress heating pad under the fitted sheets)...
It's the lack of long daylight during the fall/winter that gets me. So glad we're past another winter solstice and the days are getting longer. Can't wait for the clocks to change forward again. |
