What about him? - MJL
He is no better than Braun.
Just a day or two ago, I saw you say Provy is more like a #2. Not a genuine #1.
And I agree. A good #2.

You are the one who brought up this #1 #2 nonsense. The statement was about him getting a better partner, and he should. Just because Hedman can play with Rutta has nothing to do with Provy. |

Lived years in a climate that never got hot and years where it never got cold. I prefer the cold and really miss snow. If we are just speaking of sleeping temperature, give me the too hot over the too cold any night. Too hot and I can still pass out, but it is the worst to shiver all night—no sleep.
Need the two points, ugly or whatever.

I lived in the Bay Area (in and around San Francisco) for a few years. The weather was perfect there. Too bad its so expensive....and they also occasionally have devastating earthquakes and fires. I was there during the Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989 and the Oakland Hills Fire '91. We lost our apartment in the earthquake. |

Really, so why didn't another team offer up a better return for a legit top pairing RH defenseman? Do you know how hard that kind of player is to get? In today's NHL with the salary cap and how big a factor that is, just looking at deals from a pure hockey standpoint is no longer valid. It's obvious and has been obvious why Nashville made the deal and why another team wouldn't beat the offer. - MJL
How do you know what the offers where?
It is possible Nashville liked Myers and Glass over what you may perceive a better offer no?
There are many reason and factors why he was traded. That isn't the only one however.

Not for the first pairing. On what other teams would Braun play 1RD? Not having Ellis hurts the whole team, but I can’t understand the planning that allows this to be. Why do most think Sanheim and Risto should not be separated? Is that really most effective for the team? - NC Flyers Fan
What option do they have though? Sanheim up to the first and then Risto and Braun , two right shots? Bring Risto up, i don’t think that’s what we want either. The problem is they are icing 4 NHl level Dmen and then guys best served retired or in the AHL after that. |

He isn't better than Braun. Provorov is not Hedman who is arguably the best defenseman in the NHL and a future hall of famer. Who plays with 4 other likely hall of famers on a really good team. Not sure why the situation needs to be explained.

What he wrote is that Provy needs someone to carry him, which is entirely false and asinine. When partnered with an adequate defenseman he is a very good player. He’s not victor Hedman, you can go ahead and call him a crappy #1 Dman for all I care it makes no difference to me. - ClaudeFather
Did Niskannen and for a brief period Ellis elevate Provy's play?
Why cant he take an "inadequate" partner and elevate their game?

I don't know, this trade would be hard for any GM to pass up. Ellis is one of the best RHS defenseman in the league and was signed to a reasonable contract and cap hit given the player he is. And the Flyers gave up, what turns out to be, very little in return. I can't see any GM turning away from this deal. Now if you want to say it was too good to be true and Nashville knew at the time Ellis was going to go through this season injured then I can see the pause, but even then I might have done that deal because I do believe Ellis is going to come back and play well for this team for years to come. - jd250
He has been critical of the ellis trade since it happened. At first because he didn't want to lose our young awesome prospects. Since they have both been scratches more of the year, his narrative changed to ellis not being healthy. Don't fall for his games.

I don’t understand this fear of trying Ristolainen on the first pair with Provorov. What else do we have to lose? Even Nick Seeler has had a look. |
|
|

So what’s wrong with saying he should have a better partner? No once cares that he’s not the best #1 Dman, this is some weird slant fans get enamored with for no reason. - ClaudeFather
where was it said he shouldn't have a better partner? Every player wants "better" line mates. Bottom line is he isn't this norris candidate he was made out to be.
Do not think anyone is saying he is a bad dman in any way.

Why is it nonsense? Provy was supposed to be the #1 D for a contending team of the future.
With such lofty aspirations, the statement of 2050:
"what is disappointing is "Provy" needs someone to carry him to make him look better. Doesn't look like he will be the one to elevate his partner."
makes sense about the disappointment part.
A #1 D of a contending team doesn't have his play descend to the levels Provy has displayed in 3 of the last 4 seasons, which are all well after he came into the league.

Coaches don't want to do things like this because they believe it reeks of desperation which will get them fired... |

He has played with Risto. ABout 9% of his shifts. I assume it did not go well in the coach's eyes.
Risto apparently suffered from playing on top pairing in Buffalo. He is currently steady with Sanheim.
All of this is presumably why. |

I am not sure Hedman is the best D man this year. But more to the point, it is silly to say Provy is bad. Or that his play will not improve as he gets a better partner.
The question is: is he good enough relative to what was advertised and what is needed to anchor a contending run? Answer seems to be: No. |

Again, you two are somehow missing the entire argument of the post and bringing in this fantasy land #1 Dman. I said he needs a better partner, clearly he does, and 2050 tried to say he needs someone to carry him which is absurd. I’m done arguing with the both of you. |

Fly guys big surprise tonite dominant 4-1 win. Giroux waives NTC at deadline but only to a team near Philly. Rangers make the best offer as they need a 3c. Do you trade him to the Rags and if so do you root for him to get his Cup? Think it's possible only see G waiving NTC if it's a nearby geografical team with a shot at winning. Caps..Canes..Rangers..Pens |

G for Necas and we retain to make it work. Thinking Canes say no to that, Necas seems like he’s going to be a good player but I’m not sure what their cap looks like. |

Jesus Christ semantics. He needs someone better to elevate his play. He isn't good enough to carry others.

Provorov doesn't need someone to carry him. He needs someone to compliment him. Provorov is not a good enough player to carry a team who is not a good possession team overall or to elevate a pairing above that in that situation. The NHL is full of high level players over it's history who have been brought down playing on weak overall teams.
