They have the elite goaltending....their PK and PP are both in the top tier of the NHL...3 key ingredients to be a serious contender. Though their Defense is solid they are young and they rely on 2 lines although they are very good. Think the young forwards need to contribute more for them to be serious contenders. Have to get some goals from the 3rd line. Much tougher team to play against this year with Goodrow..Reaves and Hunt. They have the speed and skill but playoffs require heart and grit also

And based on the numbers I just posted, the Rangers score more goals (99) than their xGF (93). So yes, they have the speed and skill to be a contender, and they happen to be in 1st place in the toughest division in hockey which further supports their current status.

The Rangers are 30th in the league in xGF%. The Flyers have an xGF/60 of 2.35, ranked 20th. The Rangers xGF/60 is 2.15, ranked 28th in the league.
