2020 Canucks Top 25 Under 25: #5 Adam Gaudette
The third-year centre remains an integral part of the Canucks plans moving forward.
In "TrevBeggs" defence, Gaudette was coached under Green, The fired guy in Chicago and now DJ Smith in Ottawa.
Gaudette's 5th round draft slot probably got him up to a 3rd round worth in a re-draft |

I just don't hold Petey in that high regard I guess. I really see him as a flash in the pan type player that took the league by storm with a insane whipping wrist shot from his spot. Believe me, I hope to be wrong on this. I don't wish ill will on him or the team. It would be awesome if he gets his game together and becomes a consistent 80 - 90 point guy. All these player comparisons are moot points until then. I hope myself, Don, and Westcoastdustructionofdraftinglefty are proven wrong. I will happily eat crow and cook the goose at the next HB picnic. - carsonagenic
There are 13 players in the league over the past (I went random) 9 years that have scored at a Point per game or higher.
McDavid 1oa
Crosby 1oa
Kane 1oa
Malkin 2oa
Panarin undrafted
Draisitail 3oa
Kucherov 56oa
Matthews 1oa
Kaprizov 135oa
Stamkos 1oa
Ovechkin 1oa
Marchand I will always just be a POS.
Marner 4oa
That goes all the way back to 04 draft and only 13 players score 80-90 points regularly. I even went back to 09-10 and only Martin St. Louis replaced the POS on the list.
So as I conclude this if Petey got back to that his near PPG avg that he would still be in a very elite group of players in the league.
Aho, Stone, Barkov, Kopitar, Point are all in the .90 PPG over that time.

How close is DiPietro? And if the answer is close, do they consider moving Demko and keeping Halak as a bridge?

If you'd have told me 3 years ago Petey was destined to become one of the whipping boys on this thread, I'd have said you were completely out to lunch. Yet here we are. |

I drew in quite the reactions from people for saying stuff like he's not the team's best candidate for captain or he's not top 5 center in the league or even a pure center for that matter. How things have changed. I'm still where I was on him... he has elite talents but is not an elite center.... but a player you need. If he gets back on his game, you could be looking at the best PP in the league while he plays very strong defensively at the same time.
I never can figure it out. Young players who have shown the can play at a very high level in the past get less leash than players who have yet to show it. |

Agree on
not a candidate for captain
not a top five center in the league
Disagree on
Elite talent. Very few in the league have elite talent. If you are not top 5 in the league at your position, and I don't know if he makes the top 20 at center anymore, you can't really be elite by definition.
and I question overall if even center is the best position for him.
A player you need. |

Now moving Demko would be insane, but I can see some posters here throwing it out there first losing streak |

Ryan Nugent Hopkins even though Hopkins never actually broke 60 points until he was 25 years old. So Petey is a ahead of him in that manor.
Huberdeau is probably another good example. Him and Barkov now kicking ass at 28 and 26 years old.
Ekblad and Forsling are also 25 though. Florida D are all entering prime years where Van's D have yet to get there or are past 30.
Rutherford is right in 2-3 years pretty much what Benning said the team would be right. - manvanfan
Theres lots of comparisons. Id say Barkov, Huberedeau, Mack are all solid examples of skinny uber talented kids that needed longer to adjust to the NHL. I think EP is fine, hasnt been the same since his wrist surgery and just needs time. |

Even the Great One was traded. But Demko is by far the most "untouchable" on this team. |

The great one asked to be traded, dont think he would ever have been. Same with Eichel and a long list. If EP asks out, story changes but until then selling low is a donkey move |

Always depends on the return.
A team might really covet him or have a major team altering injury and come knocking tomorrow, so anytime might be the right time. But yes, the return should be higher when he is playing better.
Remember though

Really, I thought Pockington got into financial trouble and sold the whiny little female dog because he had to. |

I'm agreeing with you on most of your points, but I disagree as I don't think he has elite talents.

You keep quoting me and saying you disagree yet I'm the one that just wants to argue? WTF?
I've been saying this about EP for a couple of years. I don't care if you cant remember 5 minutes back in the past. For example you just finished saying I responded to your post where it was the other way round on the last thread. You are clueless.
As far as him not having any elite talents. We've all seen his shot when he's on his game. His wrister and one timer are definitely elite. Is it not present because of past injury? Maybe but don't pretend it wasn't there in the past.
If you don't want to argue with me... then shut the (frank) up and stop trying to argue with me. It's that simple. Both times you argued with me, I was quoting someone else. |
