Yes, they put it together to survive if you will. But you have to find it comical that the $50M man is still the third line center with all these guys out. Hurt or not. - ClaudeFather
I want my team to have 3 good scoring lines.

Nick Ritchie on waivers. Did some want him in free agency? Worth a look?
Nvm: just saw his cap hit |

I agree Patrick backfired. But NO ONE, I REPEAT NO ONE thought Makar and Heiskanen were going to be "generational" defensemen. To say otherwise is hindsight and a flat out LIE if you say you thought otherwise. - MBFlyerfan
What was more likely? Makar being a generational defenseman, or Patrick with an injury and migraine history staying healthy?
Any way you slice it, the Flyers picking second got a scrub, while the 3 teams drafting after them got flat out studs. This scenario is par for the course with this franchise. |

In 4 of his last 7 games he had 0 points and was a -2, so lets not anoint him as a top line player just yet! Like most players on this team he is model of inconsistency. Also lets see how he does against good teams coming up versus the crap the Flyers have been playing against recently. - jd250
OPs point was that Oskar is finally in a groove. The coaching staff should be trying to keep that going. Instead of elevating Bunny and Brassard who hasn't played in a month. It's not really that complicated. |

Hextall made a deal to move up to draft Konecny and he also made an NHL deal to acquire 2 first round picks for Schenn. Moving up into the top 10 is difficult. - MJL
I know its difficult and you need to give up a lot more than Schenn to do it, but that is what I want to see from Fletcher. Not sure I ever will though. |

There are no words for this game. Puck it.
Let’s go Flyers!

I don't believe that the Flyers turned down an opportunity to trade into the top 10 in recent history. - MJL
Quite apart from the shocking non-trade Nardone posted, how would you know? Unless the trade happens, it usually does not get publicity. |

Extremely unlikely. The Flyers would pick 10th right now I believe.

Well it's obviously because the Flyers top 6 is absolutely stellar. That still does not address the point. Who is the better NHL LW? Bunnaman or Lindblom? Is Brassard a part of the future? - MJL
Bunnaman is a stiff, AHL player only, Lindblom is better. Brassard is a veteran that needs to play if he can given the other options they have. After this year he is gone and if they can trade him for a low pick at the deadline they absolutely should. |

For all the self proclaimed geniuses we have in here, it is befuddling it needs to be explained yet we are constantly at that point.
Non-stop whining about getting Oskar back on track then when he is finally showing signs of getting rolling cut his legs for a game we are 99.5% likely to get caved in. At least he would have some decent shifts on the second or third line....

So why is either playing up in the lineup over Lindblom? Another instance of poor development by the team. Gee wonder why he's not working out? |

The Penguins being down Malkin, Carter, Zucker is similar to the Flyers being down Couturier, Giroux, Konecny. |

trade giroux
trade Risto
trade JVR
trade Yandle - 2Real
1... yes if Giroux waives his NTC
2... yes
3.. untradeable unless retain 50% next year and even then doubtful
4..for what a stale bag of chips

With the situation that he was left with, it took him 3 years just to get the cap straightened out and to repair the prospect base. How did Hextall severely overrate his defense core? Explain that? People don't want to realize that with Hextall gone for 3 years, as fans, we're still waiting. Only now, they've made the wait longer and put up roadblocks to the future. It takes what it takes but this team was in a better position when Hextall was here than it is now. That's a fact. - MJL
So how many years did he need?
That’s kinda the problem. Hockey is a biz. You gotta be able to have plan when you walk into your bosses office. His plan was to just trust him even though he trusted no one. It was never going to work here.

That is correct and based on what I have read about the players available, the Flyers would get a good, not great prospect. However its too early to say whether the 4th pick would be that much better than the 10th pick in this upcoming class. Right now there is not a lot of consensus on the top 10 picks, except Shane Wright at 1 and from what I saw from him at WJCs I was not very impressed. |

correct. You need to just "stack" your lines when you are this shorthanded. Trying to spread it out will not work.

I watched the 3rd period of the Penguins Blues game last night, was very impressed with the Penguins. Crosby is in top form right now and that compensates for a lot. I don't expect the Flyers to end the winning streak tonight. |

You need as many years as it takes. How many years has it been since Holmgren resigned as GM? How many years did it take TB to win the Cup. How many years has it taken Edmonton, or Buffalo? Or any other team that has been rebuilding? Hextall did have a plan. I disagree that it was never going to work here. Management may not have allowed it to work but that's different.
The bottom line that many can't grasp is that in today's game, in the cap era, you are better off being a team on a rebuild with failed prospects than you are being a team in the Flyers position now.
