This is not that situation - ClaudeFather
No it's not but if it was, I would be okay with Hayes on the 3rd line.

I watched the 3rd period of the Penguins Blues game last night, was very impressed with the Penguins. Crosby is in top form right now and that compensates for a lot. - jd250
I read in this blog prior to the season starting about the Penguins downfall. Yeah, I guess that isn't happening.

You need as many years as it takes. How many years has it been since Holmgren resigned as GM? How many years did it take TB to win the Cup. How many years has it taken Edmonton, or Buffalo? Or any other team that has been rebuilding? Hextall did have a plan. I disagree that it was never going to work here. Management may not have allowed it to work but that's different.
The bottom line that many can't grasp is that in today's game, in the cap era, you are better off being a team on a rebuild with failed prospects than you are being a team in the Flyers position now. - MJL
he had no fn plan. Stop with that BS. Draft and develop is every team plan in every sport.

Yikes, can't part with Simmonds - jd250
Do you think a deal for the 1st overall pick involved more than just Simmonds?
If a team calls up a team with the 1st overall pick and that GM says sure, lets talk. You try to work up a deal that both teams can be happy with and agree to. If you can't, does that mean that you turned down a deal? No, it means there never was an agreeable deal in place. The very headline says the Flyers came "close". There are also no sources named. |

Saint Ronnie failed; he turned it down. Wayne was the sticking point. No risk Ronnie bungled it. A potential franchise #1 dman and he didn't want to give up Wayne.
Is Saint Ronnie your dad or a relative? |

I thought they were ready to take a step back for sure but Hextall is their gm so I should have expected success. Watch them win it all again. Holy what a tap dance on our skulls that will be. Haha |

If hexys plan was to build slow then it sounds like a promising deal. Agree who knows what else was involved.
Can’t blame him for not making a deal without all the facts..
Nice to inherit assets like Simmonds (and Jake) from the previous GM though.

How do you distinguish between success and failure than, if it takes as many years as it takes?
Do you remember the kind of moves Tampa made right when it started to become apparent that the core that they won their first cup with was fading? During just 1 poor season, they ended up trading away Richards, who was then about a ppg player. It was a bad trade, but that is besides the point.
Have we done anything similarly ballsy? Ever? |

I'm just commenting on what the article stated, which was that the deal was hung up because Hextall did not want to part with Simmonds. |

Canes will sweep them again. Then in the handshake line, TonyD will punch Kreider in the nuts and get suspended, leading to Canes losing in the next round. |

Oh I know, but I have no problem admitting when I am way off, and I was way off on this one. I should have known, when you have a veteran team like the Penguins with super stars like Crosby, you are never really out of it, at least in the regular season. |

Lol, that was during the Saw movie guy ownership era. There was no coherent rebuild... it was just a freakin' mess. They weren't even that bad (like 30+ wins) the year the got Stamkos. And if not for Barry Melrose they probably wouldn't have been bad enough to get Hedman. |

correct. You need to just "stack" your lines when you are this shorthanded. Trying to spread it out will not work. - hello it's me 2050
Ehh I don’t think so. You’d have a couple lines that might get eaten alive. |
