Do you remember the kind of moves Tampa made right when it started to become apparent that the core that they won their first cup with was fading? During just 1 poor season, they ended up trading away Richards, who was then about a ppg player. It was a bad trade, but that is besides the point.

That's one deal. It was also 3 years after winning the Cup. When you've won a Cup, it changes things. He also wasn't about a point a game player. He had 51 points in 62 games.

Hextall DID have a plan….but in his plan he had to draft and develop with some success. That’s why his plan went off the rails. It was obvious with the JVR signing Hextall was moving on to the second stage of the plan….but with out hitting on a lot of the high end picks, his plan was bound to fail.
