OT is another good reason why you don't trade Marner, IMO. He really could have helped.

Against fast skilled teams, Marner could have helped throughout the whole game.

Leafs got 4 goals. Matthews had 2. Not sore Marner was missed really.

He is good 3on3 though when there is more time and space.

He is good on the PK - not a good defensive player 5on5 but a good PK’er

He is a skilled talent no doubt. When they lack offence I suppose you could argue he is missed. But they really very rarely do lack offence.

Toughest road trip of the year and the team is short-handed. A point is good, too bad it came off of giving up a 3-goal lead.

They just need to get past this road trip and get everyone healthy.

Yeah, we have Vegas and St. Louis coming up and that will be interesting.

I'd throw $50 on Arizona too, because with the Leafs you just never know. Overall the team has been great since their slow start, but they can't win them all, especially down guys, like you said. One game where they were meh doesn't scare me. On to the next.

I'm not going to draw up any causations or imply these stats mean anything at all.

I'm just saying...

The Toronto Maple Leafs are 25-14-2 without Auston Matthews all-time.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are 9-11-4 without Mitchell Marner all-time.

Matthews was great.
But still could have used marner against a team like the avs.
Fun Saturday night game and we got a point.
Good times.

I thought it was fun too, as long as you expect the plot to be thin.

It's two giant monsters punching each other. Those movies are made purely for the purpose of watching on the biggest screens possible. If you keep that in mind, it doesn't disappoint.

If no causation - might as well point out that Leafs play better when the popcorn is fresh at the rink…just editing this to point out I’m not trying to be rude here! Poor humour attempt. Just making a point of its pointlessness (another haha)

There is no causation. It’s a different set up, different players can fill roles, line structure positionally and combination wise, schedule, opponents, number of games (opportunities) they were out of lineup - it’s an impossible thing to draw a conclusion.

Everyone sees the game differently so I respect your opinion man. I just don’t think Matthews needs Marner to score, JT & Nylander don’t need Marner to have success, Leafs don’t need Marner to score. Leafs absolutely need his salary to use towards 2 players to make them a better team. A winger and a dman.

I respect your opinion, man, it's all good. I was just teasing.

I think it's best not to over-complicate it. In my opinion, the team is better with Marner than without, and I don't think the money could be spent much better. Scoring without Marner may not be a problem, but without him, there is a pretty big hole. It's kind of a catch 22. Would you rather a bit more depth or high end talent? I get why some see the depth as preferrable, but I don't think the money Marner makes would bring in enough to make the Leafs more dangerous. I'll keep the high end talent.

Rigged competition.

I prefer Kong, but respect the Zilla, and admit he's the stronger of the two.

I made a bad joke man - I was just saying if you posted the Marner stay and said no causation then why post it at all is what I was trying poorly to get at.

There is no way to know of the Leafs play better without Matthews vs without Marner.

I though we were discussing whether the Leafs ‘missed’ Marner or were impacted greatly by his absence - mine is that they were not terribly impacted given what he provides. They continue to be impacted by a glut of salary upfront in offence when they need a dman to shore up their pairings and a winger at the same cost as one player.

Just kidding around
Im of the opinion they're better with both.
I just want them to play as well as they do in reg season in the playoffs.
But i get the salary thing for sure.

I think you guys get to the Conference this year personally. I think Dubas will get creative not flashy and bring in a decent mid 6 winger that can play both sides of the puck and a solid dman (actually committed to defence) that can shore up the 2nd pairing. May not have #4 dman talent offensively but will solidify and settle Muzzin a bit and create depth there.

They noticed it on the Tavares line with Mik instead of Kerfoot. And the third line was weak with Ritchie and Spezza instead of Mik and Kase. Ripples, baby.
