Assuming the Sabres staff has an appropriate and growing level of skill, wisdom and intelligence, the hope here is to find the guys who may take a while but will eventually dominate their positions. Sure Tampa has their share of high picks, but also several elite and high quality players not found in the top 2.

Begging for a tank gives you the highest chance at a great talent, but as we've seen with Eichel, it means squiggly d1ck if you can't draft and build a team around him.

A young team that makes the playoffs, or pushes for the playoffs, shows obvious signs of growth and improvement, and that the franchise is on the right track. Tanking for life just shows that you're a deadbeat franchise that cares more about yachts than the final product on the ice.
