We're missing each others points.

Mine is if you look to trade Dahlin, you're selling low.

Any player at the level of Pettersson or higher would require the Sabres to add to a deal including Dahlin, and perhaps add significantly.

Dahlin's greatest value to the Sabres is his continued improvement. It's a far greater value than in any trade, unless you're good with adding more to a deal, including another player that might make the deal hurt quite a bit.

Maybe, but we don't know what the offers are. To be clear, I'm not advocating for a trade. I'm simply suggesting that he should be on the table if the right deal appears.

I said it to homie last night, but what if somehow Wright slips to 2 and there's an offer on the board for Dahlin and 30oa?

You'd be crazy not to listen imo

To be fair, the Sabres do not have 2 to 3 years to wait.

They have to make a decision by the end of next season due to his contract situation.

- kingcong39

.
CF has him signed through '23-'24 and as a RFA at the end.

I agree that the smart thing is to make a decision by next seasons end to decide if they want to extend him long term...but they do have time on their side.

Ok….
Then like i said, we get to lock him up long term & save $$$

- jdfitz77

As long as he wants to be here.

But if he has the same outlook as Reinhart, then he gone.

I dont think players of his caliber are untouchable. Those kinds of players are why you to listen to offers on Dahlin. The Canucks don't have a need for Dahlin but plenty of others do
- Hank Balling

Yes they do 100% but on the right side

What you heard is correct.

If they don't believe in Dahlin long term or think he's not going to sign long term, then they need to trade him before the final season of his current contract kicks in.

Having the team tank isn't helping to convince him, imo.

That's the problem with losing, whether intentional or unintentional.

If you're in a poopty work environment and you have options to go elsewhere, why wouldn't you, right?

They have the assets and resources to field a competitive team next year.

Do they have the right management team to maximize the resources ?

Do they have the coaching staff to get the most out of the roster ?

I guess we are going to find out.

If they no interest in winning again next season, the gain might be Bedard or Michkov, while the casualty might be Dahlin.

I believe what pissed Sam off was the 2nd bridge deal, rather than a commitment from the team long-term that he never received. Dahlin doesn't have that issue to deal with as the Sabres did offer a long-term deal.

Now losing is another matter. I think that Granato has the secret decoder to that issue, as was demonstrated by his post game remarks the other night. The Don's guidance through this season by focusing on Development, and having an up-tempo style of play is just what the youngins are loving...and the camaraderie in the locker room is helping with the culture change and positive attitude. Adding in 5 or so more exciting young players next season only serves to bolster that atmosphere.

I am not overly concerned. Adam's and Team have a good plan, I suspect working on Dahlin so he is amenable to a long term deal is in it.

Yup. That said, I truly believe they're starting to turn things around. The influx of talent that they've developed in-house is impressive and there's already some good young talent on the team in addition to Dahlin.

Right on (with the post-skunk part of this post). And "The Don? Yeah, I'm getting there with that

18 months from now, Larkin and the Sabres may find that they'd be a good fit for each other

Wonder if that’s who Gerbe keeps mentioning that they’re gonna throw big money at. Would make some sort of sense.

Thinking about your Wright idea above, why would any team drafting 2nd overall be interesting in trading Wright on an ELC for Dahlin and his ticking clock before becoming a UFA?

Is that really a realistic trade scenario?

Top 3 picks are AZ, Montreal, Ottawa. If it stays that way I suspect all 3 would stick with their selection as they all could benefit from a stud C.

Ottawa has 5 games in hand down 6 points.

I think the Sabres sink below them and Seattle.

Imagine Seattle late in the season trying to tank

Overall, why would any team give up 4 years of team control and at least $3M added to their cap in a Wright for Dahlin trade?
