The only 'terrible message' trading him would send is that management is looking at the teams future when it's making moves. Miller makes the most sense, as you said based on age and future salary projections. - Marwood
Ya, I agree with you.
Unfortunately most fans, and probably some players that are in a win now mode due to age and contract status don't look at it like that though. Salary cap juggling just has so many ramifications on so many levels. |

I meant a terrible message to the players. Don't care about the fans in that equation.
If they've turned their season around, clawed their way back into it, and then one of the teams leaders and biggest engines gets traded out from under them when they're on their push... that'd be pretty deflating. Especially after they went through a similar things with Marky and Tanev, and we saw how that affected them.
Not saying they won't get over it, but trading him at this TDL if they're close would be a misstep IMO. Keep him and trade him in the offseason if they're in that fight and have a good chance. |

I would think most players understand the business of the game. |

Oh definitely, but as we've all talked about the last while with Covid, they're not robots and they do have emotions and attachments. We saw the same story with Marky and Tanev walking – it impacted the makeup of the team. Logically they'd understand, but I think in the middle of a playoff push that'd be a hard pill to swallow.
Now, if they sink and find themselves out of it, trade him this TDL
But, from what both Ruth and Bouds have said, they're quite fond of JTM so not sure he's even really going to be on the block right now. |

All of this. If we keep him for a shot at the playoffs and he isn't willing to extend in the offseason, you really have no choice but to shop him. A good return would go a long way as far as public opinion. Our room should be mature enough by now to know it's a business and the core shifts to meet the needs of the team. |

I hope you are both ok. Apologies for having a different opinion. I think it’s a well written article. - CanuckDon
I wouldn’t consider that “journalism”. Just read like an angry entitled rant. His conclusions were totally wrong and based only on his opinion. |

Kane - maybe, but the guy is a tool. Depends how he acts trying to get signed even lol
I love Miller....but can you keep him and Bo? With Miller being 30 when his deal expires, and wanting + deserving a big raise and probably term....I think we need to trade him this or next year for assets + sign Bo.
The teams not ready to sign a 30 year old guy w/ high cap and term IMO. - canucksfan1944
I guess we’ll have to wait & see how much & long he signs for which ever team signs him.
Anyone care to guess? |

Stupid Bouds turning this team around, really complicating things.
I still think JTM will/should be the odd man out when it comes to the cap and numbers game due specifically to his age. Unless they can sign him on a 3-4 year deal, but I'm super doubtful on that.
Trading him at this TDL gives the biggest return, but if the Canucks are fighting for a playoff spot that'd send a terrible message. - NewYorkNuck
What is that return exactly? |

The impact cost Green his job. Or was Green the negative impact? |

That's usually the basic response when you run into someone who can shut down pretty much any questionable narrative thrown at him intelligently with a solid rebuttal. His 'opinion' is shared by many and he certainly isn't wrong very often. |
