I would think Slava Voynov's contract termination would be comparible, the Kings got cap relief for that. - LAHawk
That's right, i think they treated it like LTIR |

Boqvist is a very fluid skater, knows where to be in the O-zone and how to get there and has a very quick shot. That said, he tends to get mesmerized a bit in the D-zone and is pretty one-dimensional. He can be a point producer from the back end (which is needed), but overall, I agree with your assessment. - Chunk
So you're saying we should have kept him as a forward |

Hawks have the Canadiens Thursday night who will be playing the 2nd game of a back-to-back. So that may be a win for the good guys, but you never know with this team. Then a home game Saturday versus a surprisingly good Anaheim team, then a 1 game road trip out to Seattle. No guaranteed victories there (remember the egg layed in Arizona last week), but surely possible.
Dehaan played a half way decent game. Maybe if he strings a few more together his trade value will increase from a 5th round pick to a 4th. - boilermaker100
Decent because he scored for the first time in a year and blocked a few shots?. I hope you are right and a few "decent" games hastens his ticket out of town, for ANY return.
IMO he has been consistently our worst defenseman (well, maybe Gus). His coverage and gap control is bad, he is soft on the man along the wall, he has a pop-gun shot, which he rarely uses, his reads are not good and he still tends to JC's d system chasing guys high in the zone, but worst of all is his passing. His options are weak passes that result in turnovers or clears that never get out, wrapped passes that expose the forwards, or pucks flipped out of the zone thereby giving up possession. By my view, he rarely makes a clean outlet pass.

The way King has been using Borgstrom, the way he used Galvas, the way he's getting Strome to move his feet, Stillman/Slavin/Kurashev/Entwhistle it seems to me he's for the most part using/slotting these players properly allowing them to develop and or play towards their ceiling. That along with the near total disappearance of the clown show we saw regularly and getting a roster of bottom 6 players to play .500 hockey has me wondering.
Is King a guy you sign for maybe 2 yrs to continue what he's done, especially develop prospects, and in 3 yrs or so bring in an NHL coach who can get them from point B to point F when the roster is more talented? - Mr Ricochet
Here you go Rico and other fancy stat guys,

I'm guessing he's dressing for the next game
And Murphy being spaced between dull and bad, sounds about right |

Not debating your points, all are valid. He has at least made the level of play on most evenings palatable as opposed to the embarrassment under JC. My question is this, if he is good enough to give a 2-3 year deal to develop players with a team short on NHL quality talent, why would you need to bring someone else in after that. You trust him to develop talent but not coach it to the next level once its developed?
So is King a "developer" and not a "strategist"? Also, the current narrative on the BOD is that the Hawks have consistently failed to develop their picks, wasn't King part of that equation in Rockford? SO he can develop at the NHL level but not AHL? or are we laying that all at the feet of Dent and previous coaches?

King has only been head coach at Rockford for 2 years. His first experience as a head coach, was an assistant for the Hogs, and before that the Marlies for many years.

I don't see any scenario where DeHaan is here next year (hoping they get something/anything for him) and I would have no problem with them moving McCabe and/or Murphy. Assuming Stillman stays in the lineup, let Kalynuk, Galvas, Mitchell, Beaudin and C.Jones rotate thru the other 4 D-spots. |

It could be a way to see how he has progressed against nhl players in practice in a controlled way to not ruin his confidence.

From Friedman's 32 thoughts:
27. Who knows how things are going to look when the trade deadline hits 69 days from now (nice!), but at least one US-based rental has indicated at this time he won’t go to Canada under the current setup.
It will be interesting to see how much weight is put on the different countries' regulations, not to mention how many players feel this way.
Also, for my guy Scott1977: 13. There hasn’t been a ton of trade talk because of COVID and cap constraints. That’s going to change in the next week or so. We are in scouting-meeting season, so targets will be identified. As one exec laughed, “Time to start reporting which scouts are in attendance.” |

I don’t think that you can get rid of both McCabe and Murphy, need some size on the backend, but we’ll see. |

Give him game or two then send him back down no need this year for him to be up with the big club. Let him keep developing in Rockford. |

Due to all postponement of games and covo running through teams and the cap not going up for a few years figure trade discussion would mute until middle of February to the March tdl. I do like trade talks and trades.

Is it worth it to burn a year off of his ELC for a game or two? Doesn’t seem like it to me. |

Doesn't he need to play 10 to burn a year, or is that a different type of contract? |

If hawks go pass 10 games then one year is burned if I understand the rules of entry level contract right. |

After King was hired, the Hawks rode the new energy to 4 straight wins. Since then they have won 8 games (including 2 inOT and 2 in a shootout), and lost 12 (3 in OT). 8-9-3 is 19 points out of 40 possible. I agree that the team looks far better under King, and I like him. But, the roster is that of a non-playoff team. So I'd sign King to help develop the team for awhile, and reassess when they good again. |
