its not done by position, they take a maximum of 3 players per year. He has to be among the best 3 players eligible. Which just isnt likely. There are at least 20 active players that are way ahead of him, another 10 to 15 that are retired and eligible, but not yet in. Hes way down the line.
Crosby
Kane
Thornton
Ovechkin
Malkin
Keith
kopitar
getzlaf
Backstrom
TAvares
Giroux
Stamkos
Chara
Spezza
Letang
Suter
Hedman
Doughty
CArey Price
Mackinnon
Kucherov
all active and have a better case. Other guys that will have a better case in years to come, McD, Matthews. Several others will build better cases.
recently retired with a better case:
Lundqvist
Jagr
Mogilny
Sedins
ryan Miller
Pekka RInne
Even Daniel Alfredsson probably has a better case, and who really thinks he belongs outside ottawa?
Too many names ahead of him. and there are more. - prock
Giroux?
Keith?
Spezza?
Suter?
Ryan Miller?
Getzlaf?
Is this the Hall of pretty good? Marchand will get consideration over these guys. Good one. |

Keith has 3 cups, 2 Norris Trophies and a Conn Smythe award, he will definitely be in the HOF |

Somehow I think Evander Kane is a shoe in for this. Matt Cooke also comes to mind - glove_was_stuck
Showing your youth…
Ken Linseman
Bobby Clarke
Sean Avery
Raffi Torres
Many others over the decades…
Lindros also as he is the only HHOFer to help another team win a cup by being so self centred. Also played like he never heard of Stevens. Shortened his own career. |

Who did Lindros help?
It was his fault that he played in an era where headhunting was legal and the heads of starscould be targeted?

He is more deserving than all in this list other than Keith.
It appears people just want to look at points, but this guy is one of the best forwards defensively in the modern era. Watching this game for 40 years amd I can’t think of anyone better defensively.
W that said, I hate him. I’d sooner spear him then give him a drink if water if he was trouncing through the Sahara. Hate the guy.

While you do have some players that will have a better career than Marchand. This is an extremely loose list of players.
Getzlaf, Kopitar, Miller, Rinne, Backstrom, Spezza, Sedins, Stamkos, Suter, Giroux, Tavares.... All very good players but I’m taking Marchand all day over these guys. |

My friend used to work at the HHOF and I remember him talking about a rat infestation that they were dealing with.
So he wouldn't be the first one in there |

Pretty sure this was in reference to Lindros refusing to play for Quebec.

Bahahahaha, thats hilarious.
Are you jack edwards himself? Youre being a massive homer.
To pick an example, how do you justify him being ahead of Kopitar, who was the number 1 centre on 2 stanley cups, 2 selke trophies plus 2 more finalists and a 4th place finish (marchand never better than 9th), 300 more career points, yep, THREE HUNDRED more. Played in the olympics too, lol.
Anze Kopitar is country miles ahead of Marchand. Theyre not in the same ballpark. Kopitars resume puts Marchands to shame.
There are some bruins fans over glorifying marchands resume by exponentials. |

Nobody better than marchand in the modern era? What are you smoking? His linemate, for starters. And there are dozens more. |

Like I said a pretty loose list!
But you make a comeback with one player. Yes Kopitar is a great player and a great career. But I’m still taking Marchand as he has been more dominant.
Country Miles? Resume to shame?
- Marchand has more points than Kopitar over the past 10 years. In those years Kopitar had more points than Marchand once.
- Marchand has the most SHG of any active player at 33 and Kopitar has 13. Bos is always at the top of the league in Penalty Killing.
- Marchand is a career +252. Kopitar is a minus player.
- Marchand would be playing in the Olypmics this year.
- Marchand has a cup and been to the cup finals two more times.
I’m taking Marchand sorry... Kopitar is a helluva player and belongs in the HOF but Marchand is a more dangerous dominant player.

So, not as good defensively, less career points, not as good offensively, no individual hardward like Kopitar does, less cups, but somehow you take Marchand. There is literallly not a single part of Marchands resume that trumps Kopitar. not one little bit.
Homer, homer, HOMER.
Yeah, I took one player as an example. I can do several more. |
