I'm saying it's not even worth worrying about at all, because slightly overpaying elite talent in your core is so, so much better than actual legit dead money problems you could have. Slightly overpaying a Marner is a good problem to have. And I recall when Nylander's deal was awful too....lots of angst around that contract not so long ago...not sayin', just sayin'...

He's not the best RW in the league and yet he's paid like he is without any playoff success behind his name nor any individual trophies to back that up (whilst playing with AM34 and/or Snake!).

2M~ is a LOT of $$$ per the cap. It's the difference of being forced to play a guy like Justin Holl on the 2nd pair over plenty of 4M defenders who are orders of magnitude better than him.

Nylander? Since day one I've been a defender of his contract. Marner's contract should have been much, much closer to what Willie is making at the time Mitch signed his absurd deal.

An 11M~ player should be able to playoff hockey. Marner has been positively mediocre. When he starts producing up to his cap hit and is capable of elevating his game when it matters most instead of flipping pucks into the stands while killing penalties, call me.
