Got me thinking back to the day when my friend had a worn out engine. He connected two 12v batteries in series to gain a longer cranking time. Honestly, it seemed like 20 straight minutes. One heck of a starter .

Sorry, should be parallel.

Just had to start my car with booster cables.

FFS, it’s not that cold.

I’m a little pissed off.

Is it not strange that the "most underrated" player is always from Dallas or Florida?

Less coverage of the team may play a part who's on the list

Yeah, but imagine if Marner was paid what he should've been paid. The Leafs would have a bonus $2M to work with.

Could easily make the trade for Chychrun work.

If Lou didn't sign Marleau to that ridiculous contract the Leafs could have had a another top prospect to deal for Chychrun

Dead cap is far worse than a tad overpaid star...the star can still be worth the deal, dead cap will never be and you have to use 1st and 2nd round picks to get rid of them.

- Santo_44

Didn’t really need to dump, should have kept the pick and Marleau for 1 more year.

Now to finish my story. Same friend, same car.

So we are both working week-ends at our local service station. Gas only, the two bays are closed. My buddy has a broken frame behind the rear wheels. So much in fact that the rear bumper is hanging down.

So he has the car in the bay, braces the frame back up with a 2x4 and fires up the stick welder. Literally, welded all day while I pumped all of the gas.

About an hour before we closed, he declared he had it fixed. When he brought the hoist down it gave a little shudder the very moment the wheels touched the floor.

Well, you probably guessed it. At the same time the frame slowly dropped to its previous position.

Must have swept a truckload of spent rods off the floor.

uhm. no.

What were they supposed to do? Trade away Kap, Hyman and Kerfoot and replace them with league minimum guys?

Don't think the Leafs had any choice on Marleau. I would like to see better drafting. Leafs seem to hate drafting d-men and goalies. I am starting to really not like the Amirov pick even more than the Korshkov pick. Guhle big strong defender with a rocket of a shot from the point, captain of juniors (Team Canada), hits hard, tough to play against, solid player, Braden Schneider RHD, scored his first NHL goal in his first game for the Rangers last week looks to be a top four d-man for many years to come. FFS Dubas, pick a d-man with your next first rounder, and not a 5'5" skill guy please.

So, if this season goes south again and the Leafs decide to move Marner, how many teams could take his salary on? And assuming the Leafs get a good return too.

Not going to be easy

He leads his team in points per 60...had a brutal injury. Has the highest upside of all leafs prospects.

50% of Dubas's 1st round picks have been defensemen.

The small skilled forwards are drafted in the later rounds and the meaning behind that is the Leafs have one of the very few AHL teams that can operate without worrying about revenue, meaning they can play the (frank) out of their young players to develop them to play against men in the NHL.

The mid/late rounds are 95% garbage and the Leafs are drafting skill there because they have the development system in place now that can get these skilled guys a chance at the NHL.

There are teams out there that have 5 million in dead cap.

It’s not a homer spin, just a reasonable one.

- Santo_44

Other teams cap problems are irrelevant. This was about Marner's contract being "dumb", which I stand by.

I just don't agree.

Its whatever, he can still live up to that contract and I am not investing my energy into it.

Dead cap? Absolutely will invest energy into that because the only way it leaves us is with a draft pick.

And yet you are investing yourself into it because you're having this very conversation - something you've done many times in the past. So no, it's not "whatever".

I think his contract is dumb for the many reasons I've listed in this thread and beyond. He has not lived up to it yet. He is not the best RW in hockey. He has had the benefit of playing with two of the best centres in hockey and has not put up the kind of dizzying numbers his absurd, unearned contract was handed out for, etc.

Dead cap? Start a conversation about it but don't try to pretend you're not invested in this one when you have replied twice now to a conversation you weren't even a part of to begin with.

I am engaging in conversation

I am just not putting any energy into worrying about the contract because he is a young elite star that can still live up to it

I'll worry about the Nick Ritchie contracts because like I said, you have to use a pick to get rid of those

I would much rather see, Guhle or Schneider playing on the Leafs next season (and they will both be NHL players next year) And remove either Holl or Dermott, than see Amirov score 14 points as a third line LW. In terms of potential (and I hope I am wrong) I see no significant impact by Amirov. I do see Niemela as making this team and being in the top four. It doesn't change my opinion that the 1st rounder was not the best pick available to the Leafs.

You are saying Guhle and Schneider being top 4 Ds and Amirov a 3rd line winger like its a fact and I just don't understand that.

Just because a player is in the NHL honest mean squat. KK was in the NHL as a Hab and look at him now. Dermott played at a very young age and he is a 3rd pairing guy at 25.

The scouting reports disagree with you, and unless you have done your homework I really can't put much faith into this opinion.

Amirov is a top end prospect, he has 1st line potential and a high hockey IQ. The Leafs have Lil, Sandin and Niemila. Had Sandin and Liljegren in the top 3 for the last 3 years. You have to balance out your pool.

If you want the reports ill send them to you.
