You're right but their approach is they're likely going to approach it the same way they did last off season. If they move Giroux and Ristolainen at the deadline, they're going to have some cap space. They won't do the smart thing. They'll go on another shopping spree. - MJL
Fortunately Fletcher won’t be here for that. No way he is back since they won’t make the playoffs. |

In the end I agree with you that Fletchers off-season was overkill, but remember the only reason why his hand was forced was because the defense Hexy built was below avg.
The issue is Hexy failed and Fletcher failed to compensate. Who is next. We are 0 - 2 of late
- Joe Nardone
I don't need to remember something that is way off base. I'm amazed that some fans have the opinion that Hextall should've completely rebuilt the team and fixed the issues the team had, that had been going on for over a decade. It took Hextall over 3 years just to straighten out the cap and build up the prospect base. Hextall didn't fail. He wasn't permitted to see it through. Look what the defense was when Hextall took over. You think that in 5 years with the cap issues and no prospects that he should've been able to complete rebuild the defense, the forward ranks and the goaltending? Not realistic. |

Hi, Bill.
Any insight into whether or not Dave Scott is going to emerge at some point in public to offer his viewpoints in the vein of a "state of the union" address?
(1) The team is flailing on the ice. The product is boring and the Flyers are very clearly the fourth out of four teams in this city (not that I really care about the other three, however, in terms of the pulse of the city, the Flyers are irrelevant).
(2) Amongst the league power brokers, the Flyers seem relegated below many other clubs.
(3) Fan vitriol is at its zenith, either in the form of outright hostility/aggression, mocking, or, perhaps most alarming, sheer apathy (for me, I vacillate between hostility and apathy the most). I'm convinced the PR folks are sadomasochists because the comments on all forms of social media whenever they post anything are just brutal.
(4) The Flyers civil war between Clarke and Hextall in the media just makes the team look like a bunch of morons.
I honestly believe the Flyers have begun to drift towards being the laughingstock of the league in some respects. We used to be special. There used to be a chip on the shoulder of all Flyer fans. It makes me want to vomit writing this next part, but, those arguments Pens fans float about being the superior franchise...my God, could they be correct?
I miss the days when the Flyers used to matter. When it would matter to me when they'd be on, would never miss a game.
There appear to be wide swaths of the fandom that have just woken up and realized that the years of emotional sweat equity they've invested in this team are yielding next to nothing in returns at this time, or the recent past or the foreseeable future.
I would love to see a no holds barred interview with Scott conducted to see how he's going to steer us out of this quagmire. - Brad Marsh Fan
Man, what a great post. I think a lot of flyers fans agree with you as well. I posted earlier today, compare our team success from like 1974-2012 to 2012- now. We are basically irrelevant especially as compared to how we used to be.

I personally don’t think they’ll relieve fletch. I think yeo is gonzo. They’ll bring in another coach and spend in ufa, but the whole Clarke rant to me tells me that people high up in the org are lobbying for the fan base to forgive fletch and blame hexy for all the organizations problems. Trot the best player and franchise icon out to push that narrative. I’d be shocked if he gets fired in view of what I’m seeing.
On a side note, how demoralizing for the players on the current roster drafted by hextall to hear from Clarke that it’s hextalls fault they suck. Translation, all of you drafted by him suck haha

They traded a pile of dogshyt for a very good right handed dman that if healthy would be their number 1 guy and help with almost everything they are bad at. Other than clearing the porch he literally checks all the boxes. They took a risk.
If he was not injury prone and w term left there is no way that trade ever happens.
He also missed 0 games w lower body injuries since 17 or 18 according to his bio on tsn. Not sure if that’s accurate.
Anyway they took a risk. Right now it’s a shyt show hopefully he gets healthy. - Joe Nardone
Dude was brokedown when they traded for him.
2019-20 - missed 20 games played 49 of 69
2020-21 - missed 21 games played 35 of 56
2021-22 - missed 32 games played 4 of 36
Best case scenario is he plays 50% of the games this season, but it will be more like 25-30 percent

When they put a bullet in Vigneault, they should have put a bullet in all of them. Yeo was never a special case. - SuperSchennBros

He’s not even skating. I don’t expect him to play this year. Worried about coots too. He probably needs surgery but they’re holding off. Just get it done. I’m thinking it’s a core injury.

Why would we want to sign him? Our season is done, not a chance we can make the playoffs. Unless we try to get the 13th draft pick instead of top 10. ....no thanks - bradster
All I'm saying is he's a Center option that I haven't heard about in any connection to the Flyers. Not just now but earlier in the season when it may have helped improve the team with all the volatility at Center.
Why would he come here? Money. . .he's playing for basically nothing in the AHL on a tryout. As a hardcore Flyers fan, it would make the team more competitive and interesting to watch.
IMHO he would be a vast improvement over the Center juggling that's occurred all season
and he could be an asset to be moved at the deadline for futures. Having Staal on this team can't be worse than what's iced so far this season. Just my opinion. . . |

I thought NY were a bunch of little urban achievers overachieving....
Their coach is Gallant the dude that drove an Expansion team to the verge of a cup.

Thanks for the comments about maturity and common sense.
This is a hockey chat. It’s entirely opinion. There are no future gms here.
I’m not saying I agree with his off-season moves. I think Atkinson made sense for both team. Some trades are good for both team…
Risto gave up too much. Ghost a 2 no rounder for the contract was prob the market rate, but hay move was prob a representation of poor overall strategy by Hexy and Fletcher. Ended up being a bad contract (who would have thought). Yandle well I think we alll agree there.
Ellis - I get the move.. Prov is not the guy we all thought he was and they continue to have to find a big brother for him. I like Provy, but good lord he simply does not make people better who play with him better and he needs someone to make him better. Wtf that’s not a number 1 dman. Don’t care how many minutes he plays.

Although they haven’t won it, I wouldn’t call making the final 6 times and the semis another 10 abject failure. They were successful although not achieving the ultimate prize. It’s the toughest trophy to win for a reason. The point is that they were successful and in contention routinely. A lot of other orgs were nowhere near that successful |

Pitt won it 5 times in 25 years. In the last 35 year, we have 2 appearances and won a total of 2 games. |
