Drafting 2 LD #1 OA is going to force a move, at some point...unless they are really comfortable with someone making the switch to RD long term. I'm sure it's on their minds. - Lunaion
i hear ya...he'll be in rochester next season anyway, but i guess if the right deal comes along they'd do it |

ummmm...that ship sailed in 2014 - Michael Pachla
I sincerely don’t know. Has he worked with the sabres already? I knew he did with the islanders. |

I know I don’t routinely post in here but here’s a truly honest question
How would you Sabres fans feel about hiring someone like Pat Lafontaine as president (similar to Shanny in Toronto) who could take on the media judgement and bias in order to loosen the stress for whoever gets hired as the new GM?
I wouldn’t even be too shocked if players would be willing to sign there even more if he was involved. - Dozzer
I think most generally support the idea (not Patty, of course). Kim Pegula is such an easy target, despite no one knowing what she actually does. It's something you really need to do before you hire a GM though. |

They did this, he got fired after 3 months and had to sign a non disclosure agreement lol - joevthree
Really? My apologies but I sincerely didn’t know.
Did it ever get leaked what the problem was?
As an afterthought what about going euro and getting Hasek to do it? |

I’m not thinking a GM… I’m thinking a president. Someone who can distract media from the actual GM |

there was a disagreement between patty lala his superiors...i believe it centered around trading ryan miller and therefore going all-in on tanking as the preferred method of re-building the team...not much is known, but i think that was a driving force in the separation after only three months or so |

I understand that. If he has any actual power/control, you'd want him to hire his GM.

many of us here have been clamoring for a president of hockey operations since shortly after they canned lafontaine, who had the title of vp of hockey ops |

Hmmm… maybe ownership should openly admit he may have been right since they seem to be doing what he originally wanted now (this thought is based on moving Eichel to Vegas) |

Yup, sorta what I’m thinking… just like how Shanny originally had Lou and now Dubas because he doesn’t want to do that work himself and it makes him essentially a bit of a responsibility distraction |

I’m learning about this tonight, I sincerely didn’t know his past regarding this.
However it seems like they’re now following what he wanted to do… maybe the team should openly admit they were wrong and bring his hockey intelligence back into the picture
Just an open thought of mine I won’t pretend to know for sure |

A lot of people here think KA is going to be given that role at some point, and Karmanos or Ventura will take over as GM.

Terry wants his hands all over everything, any PHO worth his salt won't want to take his suggestions. It'll take a "yes man" like Adams if they do it. |

Think Adams is capable of doing that? If they go with him as a president then hopefully Pegula backs off.
Out of curiosity if you had to choose between the bolded who would you prefer? |

Well this answers one of my questions about the owner pretty quickly lol
Blows me away… if I was buffalo’s owner I’d totally embrace being a northern American city who could likely win over some Canadian fans as well and turn into a rich team… somewhat like the rangers. The businessman who owns the team should deliberately invest in hockey minds to run the team with whatever budget they require…. And from what I remember when the sabres are competitive they pack the house fairly easily.

I don't think Kim does a whole lot as their current pres. They trust KA and he's a very underqualified GM, so it makes some sense. It might actually be a better fit for him.
Karmanos vs Ventura would just be a guess. We really don't know who has the bigger voice in hockey moves right now. I think it's widely known that Ventura plays a bigger role than just analytics, but he's the less likely option vs the AGM. Personally, I love the idea of an analytics guru rising to GM.

Liking your thought on Ventura… I think that’s hockey’s future.. analytic intelligence coupled with a gutsy know how and willingness to take on a risk here and there… just convince the owners to let their presidents to truly run the team… if owners do that “risky thing” 2 or 3 times moving forward I’d be willing to be we see it more league wise since success simply equals a higher profit. |

Before he got hired as GM he was in charge of the Harborcenter, and when they shut down during the pandemic, he skipped a few steps and consequently the boards warped like a mofo.

Beane probably isnt regretting uncle Terry's influence on the Buffalo Bill's pick of josh Allen.
Pretty well known pegs was hands on with that decision. |

Good article by Vogel on The Athletic about how the Sabres are boosting the TOI and metrics of several UFA's in the hope to increase trade values at the TDL.
Could Miller is playing 19:38 this season. Could he really get a 1st? That is what Adams is asking for per LeBrun the other day.
Hinostroza's numbers, primarily the counting stats looking solid for a $1m guy....45% better production than Zemgus at 50% of the Cap hit ...pretty good value. Could they get a 2nd...probably more like a 3rd.
Haag building value as a PK guy. Would be a decent acquisition for a 6th Dman, even 7th. What would that bring? A 3rd, a 4th?
