This return for Karlsson obviously looks better in Ottawa's favour now but this trade happened 4 years ago. Ottawa has been poop since then and are still poop.
Oscar Lindberg · $1,700,000
Erik Brännström · $0 (AHL/JR)
2020 2nd round pick (DAL - #61 - Egor Sokolov)
For Mark Stone. They got a mid round first prospect who still can't make the poopty Senators.
Tomas Tatar ($500,000 retained - 9.4%) · $4,800,000
Nick Suzuki · $0 (AHL/JR)
2019 2nd round pick (CBJ - #50 - Samuel Fagemo)
Suzuki looks good enough return for Patches alone but Suzuki certainly not helping the team win games this season. Again 3 years after that trade was made.
It is sort of a toss up with getting younger players back, and most of the time they don't replace the high-end level of the player that gets traded away. However, all of those teams that traded the better player wouldn't really be a better team if they kept them. Now, that might be different for the Canucks as they're not as bad as some of those teams, but I would think the younger players + cap room would work out in their favor in the long run/fit their window better.
But I appreciate you digging through and pulling out trades that fit the framework of JTM comparables

I appreciate that you appreciate the work I put into that.
Getting high end players is the hardest thing to do in the NHL. Re-signing Miller for a good contract would be the preference. If not, the value has got to be pretty high. First, high end prospect and a younger NHL player. Something close to what Buffalo got for Eichel.

I just don't see Miller signing a shorter contract with the Canucks. I think he's going to be looking for a 7 year deal, which he'll get. All the power to him.
Ya, comparable with Eichel is hard – Eichel is probably the better player and is longer/locked up long term, but costs twice as much and has a huge injury concern. I would think a 1st, either high end prospect or established young player, plus another mid prospect or pick and maybe a small cap dump to fit Miller under. I would honestly rather them have prospects/established young guys over picks.

Hearing NHL/NHLPA agreeing on no longer testing asymptomatic players and staff after All-Star. At that point, testing only required for cross-border travel and if a person develops symptoms.

#NHL told teams today that 73% of the league’s rosters have tested positive this season and approximately 60% have tested positive in the last five weeks.
Current protocol remains in place until Feb. 3.
NHL and NHLPA must meet and review reported protocol changes on Jan. 31 - manvanfan

meh, watch the games, he throws it to opposing players middle ice more than any canuck. - Makita
Who cares. He is the only player other than Quinn that drives play. We need more Millers not less. Use your eye test or go on NHL.com And realize he is a PPG Center with size. #canucksfansgetwhattheydeserve
Enjoy the boesers and PoUtys of the league as that’s what you deserve

I am pretty sure you misunderstood what I was saying.
I do watch the games and I do see him give away the puck a lot. I also see that he has only 26 giveaways in 38 games this season. Hence why I said the stats people have been very kind to that stat.
