I've been seeing that a lot on here of late and haven't looked at the numbers. Can we really? Who are we losing other than the proposed trade pieces? We have 2 big contracts kicking in and others to be signed next year. The $3.5M in dead cap space that is coming free won't go far. - Tonybere
Would have to sweeten the deal to get BC to retain some salary (2M)
I think we have the depth to pull this off
Any four any combination
2022 First rd pick
2023 Second rd pick
Zac Jones
Nils Lundkvist
Mathew Robertson
Phil Chytl
Julian Gauthier
Libor Hajek
Alex Georgiev

We will have around 15m in cap space the following year to make signings making it very possible to keep Miller beyond this and next year. |

To me, Nils should go over anyone else. With Schneider, and obv Fox and Trouba, he doesn’t have a spot and he’s probably got the most value out of that group being a RHD and held his own in the league so far
A first, Nils and Chytil should be enough to get someone like JT imo

I don’t understand why we would get Chairot. We have 4 kids ready to play every game and he’s basically Nemeth. He isn’t necessary - Slimtj100
I think its just about having someone reliable there because Nemeth isnt. |

I can pretty much guarantee someone here will hate Chairot after his first shift as a Ranger he seems like a clone of Nemeth. |

Do you really think this team is one piece away from being a contender to give up that much for one player?

Yes I do
We have a Norris trophy winner, a Hart and Vezina contenders, Grit, size and and top notch youngins - All we need is more quality depth (Miller) and I think we absolutely can win it this year
Also: you are the first person to call all the players on this list scrubs and ask who would want them?! |

This is a player we could potentially retain past the 2 years we will have him. So its not just a move for one player for one moment. This is the only thing that makes this trade different from all others. |

He has more goals than Nemeth has points playing for an atrocious Montreal team. |

I don't think Kakko signs for 3 years at that rate. I also think your Strome contract might be a little high. So maybe some of the money could be allocated to Kakko.
Realistically, does Vancouver really retain that much salary? |

depends on what they value- if you had room would you take Nils for $2m in retained salary - I would if I had it

Were 5 pts away from leading the pres trophy race, and you don’t even think we’re contenders already?

It doesnt fit in with his narrative that they shouldn't have signed Panarin

Seravalli is one of the most dialed in insiders out there, if he is saying Rangers are deep in this I tend to believe it. I am sure Drury has a plan to make the money work |

Well, these next two games should help make up people's minds one way or the other. But, even if we have struggled against top teams so far this season, I think there is a big difference between a one off and a 7 game series. I can't think of anyone who I'd say is clearly able to take us down easily in a series. |

We have seen it with Hank in the past. Having a top 3 goalie in the league gives you a chance to win any series even if you are outplayed |

I could see the Rangers winning a 7 game series where they win 4 games by the score of 2-1
and then the three losses are all 8-1 losses

We have had struggles against some top teams, but played quite well against others. We’re probably the only team in the league that wins a home and home against the reigning Stanley cup champs and “aren’t contenders”.
And regardless, they have $9M in cap this year. Even if they aren’t contenders, we know they’re going to use it. If it’s used to bring in a near ppg C who is decent on draws…how does that not make us more of a contender?
The logic just doesn’t add up… |

Agree. It also gives us a more balanced top 9 which has been a killer a season.
That’s a big thing I’m looking forward to seeing in the 2nd half. Need to find consistent lines where each line has a defined role and purpose.
If it is JT, does he play 3C or does Strome move to wing?

I, personally, would rather have the C depth. The gap for the team isn’t the top 6. Chytil is showing he can be that warm body on the right side of Panarin/Strome. I’d like to see what Miller can do with Laf and Goodrow. It just feels like a more complete team than stacking the top two lines.
If that doesn’t work, go back to the drawing board and move Strome to RW. |

Irrational Exuberance rules this board. Temper expectations juts a little. The team has progressed nicely, but lets not be patient and let the kids grow a little, lets just trade them away for what we perceive as a quick fix, cause you know, it has worked so well for us in the past. Whatever you ass clowns want to say, the playoffs are a different season and this team hasnt been there in 4yrs so they have zero playoff experience. I dont think there has ever been a team that has missed the playoffs and gone on to win the Stanley Cup the following season.
The real contenders are Tampa, Fla and Carolina and out West Vegas, when Eichel gets back and Colorado. Id put Washington and Pittsburgh as strong contenders then Toronto, Rangers, Nashville, Minny as the unknowns wild card teams. I dont mean wild card as making the playoffs as a wild card, I mean they will be an unknown entity in the playoffs. Will they carry their season play over to the playoffs? |

So just punt on the season and waste another year of Panarin, Kreider, Zib's, Trouba's and Stromes prime years? The team is in a strong playoff spot and has 9 million in cap space that will most likely never happen again. Doesn't make sense to not use it. |

I actually agree with your thoughts on the probability of the team winning it all. Where we differ is in the wild card nature of your assessment. The makeup of this team is A LOT different than any other team that hasn’t made the playoffs in a while.
There also was an injection of playoff experience onto the team by the likes of Goodrow, Reaves, Nemeth, etc. |
