I agree. I was just trying to make the point that is all we can ask for as fans. A chance. Even if we aren't the favorite. Never know what the team will look like next year or if certain prospects and young players take the next step - TPC
That team felt like it could only win 2-1 games tho. This team can win any type of game imo. Wanna run and gun we’ll beat you or we’ll beat you with Shesty standing on his head, or we’ll beat you grinding it out too. |

I wasn't yet a fully invested Rangers fan. It happened soon after. The most memorable thing about my fandom is when I was so pissed about the Rangers trading Gartner away that I said I was going to be a Maple Leafs fan. - JRR1285
Yeah, I have always felt bad for Gartner, he should have gotten his name on the cup

Just for the record, The Rangers missed the playoffs in '93 and won the cup in '94 - ELew11
What’s even funnier besides that a team has done it is the team is the Rangers lol |

We had a new, veteran coach that year... just like we have this year.

Irrational Exuberance rules this board. Temper expectations juts a little. The team has progressed nicely, but lets not be patient and let the kids grow a little, lets just trade them away for what we perceive as a quick fix, cause you know, it has worked so well for us in the past. Whatever you ass clowns want to say, the playoffs are a different season and this team hasnt been there in 4yrs so they have zero playoff experience. I dont think there has ever been a team that has missed the playoffs and gone on to win the Stanley Cup the following season.
The real contenders are Tampa, Fla and Carolina and out West Vegas, when Eichel gets back and Colorado. Id put Washington and Pittsburgh as strong contenders then Toronto, Rangers, Nashville, Minny as the unknowns wild card teams. I dont mean wild card as making the playoffs as a wild card, I mean they will be an unknown entity in the playoffs. Will they carry their season play over to the playoffs? - Brukie
Brukie,
What is it that you want from management?
You argued that signing Panarin was a waste because we weren't a playoff team. Then doubled down on that saying that we weren't ready to make a run on the playoffs. Right now we are the #4 team in the league, with legitimate candidates for the Hart, the Norris and the Vesina. We have the toughness. We have top tier special teams. We have added playoff experience.
Exactly what is it that you think we are lacking to become a contender? Every other team you listed as a favourite has the elements we now have.
Are we guaranteed anything? Of course not. But, every single year multiple top contenders don't win the Cup. Most years, the "best" team in the league doesn't win the Cup. So, please tell me, if we shouldn't be trying to get there this season, exactly when should we? And how????

Nice!!! My dad was quite the curler in his day. I actually took him to the Brier (Canadian championship tourney) about 15 years ago. It's a drinking culture, that's for sure!!!
Plus, curling seems to attract very good looking women these days!! |

I don't think Kakko signs for 3 years at that rate. I also think your Strome contract might be a little high. So maybe some of the money could be allocated to Kakko.
Realistically, does Vancouver really retain that much salary? - JRR1285
Well, being that Kakko really hasnt done anything to garner a huge raise, I was going by the bridge contract that Kempe signed. |

Yeah, I think we're at the point where Kaapo should be signed to the contract that is going to make him put in the work to make sure he will eventually get his payday! |

As long as the Rangers are a fringe/1st round team, he gets kicks out of watching us talk about the team. His philosophy is sit back and be just barely good enough to not loathe but have something to argue. |

So he sucked at hockey? - Fenrir
Hahaha!
Actually, going through all his stuff after he passed away, I was shocked at finding his HS yearbooks (from the early 50's).
Had no idea that he played hockey, basketball, curling, football (QB) and tennis. Was also student council president and won best actor in the Drama Festival 2 years in a row!! He never spoke of any of it.
Edit: apparently it's true that talent can skip a generation! |
