I wonder how many players can retire at the end of this season and collect insurance for their contract for being medically unfit to play

Hayes
Ellis
?? Who else

Send them to a career ending " orthopedic specialist" and be done with it

- RajaAmpat

None of them are retiring. Even in the unlikely event they couldn't ever play hockey again they wouldn't retire. See, Pronger C.

You'd think Hayes and Ellis were the first hockey players to ever have injuries wreck a season the way you lot carry on.

Always thought it was super weird that his sister and girlfriend looked like twins:

- Tomahawk

They both need new jeans too.

- hockeylover

No, they need less jeans.

Also less jackets and less shirts too.

The 1992-1993 Ottawa Senators that finished the season with 24 points,
record of 10-70-4 didn't have two 10 game losing streaks in the first half of the season.

Doesn't the last line prevent that?
- Scoob

Well spotted.

In that case, 75% would be the max retained salary. Still a lot.

Injury update: Flyers center Kevin Hayes underwent a procedure this morning to drain fluid from his adductor region. He is expected to return to play in 3-4 weeks.

- PLindbergh31

they should shut him down the rest of the way, it's painful to watch him out there

on the bright side Yandle is healthy as an Ox
- wcorvette

I'm not the kind to wish injury on anyone*, but I can't help but think it'll be some bigly poetic justice if he gets hurt the game before breaking the record...

... better yet, the game before tying it.

(*: Of course, it's more as a hatred against the front office than against the player for putting this whole folly above the needs of the team as a whole itself.)

Anyone who doesn't think that the senior advisors don't have influence are kidding themselves. They all need to go and the hockey department needs to be completely revamped and they need to change how they do everything. It's blatantly clear.
- MJL

I was looking at the Lightning front office, they got a director of player development, amateur scouting, player personnel, skills development, hockey operations, and they are all different people so you got some different voices and perspectives there. Meanwhile the Flyers got Fletcher, Flahr and very old and out of touch senior advisors. Look at the comparison of the two franchises, it's night and day, and so are their front offices! Do you think the Flyers could use a director of skills development???

I mean we are stuck with him, at his best he could be a 3rd line center, but right now he can't even do that! This has to go down as Fletcher's worse decision to sign Hayes, he was slow before the surgeries, and now it's a complete disaster!

Please look at the Flyers front office in depth before making this comment. Flyers have 3 guys in the player development role. Kjell Samuelsson, John Riley and Nick Schultz. Brent Flahr is the Flyers director of amateur scouting. They also have a skills coach Angelo Ricci. They have a goalie development coach, Brady Robinson. The Flyers have the same thing, just different titles in some cases.

By my count, roughly about 80% of the Flyers personnel have job descriptions that are not directly relevant to what goes on the ice (they are on on the non-hockey side of things):

Maybe that's the norm. I dunno.

Hayes wasn't slow before the surgery. Honestly, trading for Ellis and Ristolainen were his worst decisions in my opinion. Now that I think about it, there's a considerable list.

the difference is none of these Flyers positions are executive positions, for example Ricci is a coach, not a executive directors. This implies to me a lack of accountability. In Tampa, these directors are all at the same level as Darche and Brisbois. I mean maybe it's nothing, but maybe not.

What else would they give. G and provie together should bring more than newhook. But that’s just me.
- Peter Richards
Provorov and Giroux for Newhook? And you people have the gall to rip Fletcher? I'm sure glad some of you folks aren't GMs!!!!

yes Hayes was slow, but he was able to compensate with puck possession, now he can't even do that. I think any GM would make the Ellis trade, it was a no brainer! With Risto at least Fletcher has a chance to get out of it, let's see if he does.

I disagree with you here for sure. Hayes has always been a lumbering skater. He has now slowed to a crawl since the surgeries. I do agree that it was an awful signing as he really made no sense for this team. They need to get faster and more physical at the forward position, and this guy filled neither one of those needs. I didn't mind those 2 trades either. If Ellis was healthy that trade would have been an absolute steal for what they gave up to get him. They rolled the dice and lost so far. They paid too much for Risto, but again, they needed to get more of a physical presence on this team and he provides that.

You're just making it up as you go along. They just put a different label on it. It's the same thing! Please think about what you're saying here. So you're telling me that the director of skills development Mike Ellis is at the same level as the teams GM? No, he's not.

No, Hayes is not slow. He is an average skater and not slow by any means. He's slow now because he isn't healthy.
I completely disagree that any GM would make the Ellis trade. Know how I know that? Look at what Nashville got for a legitimate top pairing all situations RH defenseman. I'm not sure when that's going to sink in.
The narrative that Ristolainen is the Flyers best defenseman and one of the best defenseman in the league sure has faded.

Just stopping by to say where’s the defenders now? This was all very predictable for awhile. And guess what… it’s gonna get worse. That’s why you don’t trade picks for risto type players. Or Ellis type players. Or sign 30 year old to be coots to 8 year deal. This (frank)tard team will never get it.

What if the deal was to be competitive with a couple of SC wins while he was living and a term of what we as fans are going through for a set amount of time?
