you really only need guys that can bring it for 15-17 minutes a night as the other guys are getting big minutes

Hagg, Gudbranson, your team isn't better when they play. I guess being physical is fine. I admire the passion the man plays with. But can't we find guys with that tenacity who are actually decent hockey players too

they've got a back-to-back here in cleveland 7pm on friday, 1pm on saturday...methinks they just might want to have him around the big club before he gets sent back down for the weekend (at least i hope he's with the amerks this weekend) - Michael Pachla
Hm. Should have just kept Murray here for the Flyers game and then got Quinn in here on Monday.

[David] Jiricek is a big [6'3" 189 lbs.], right-shot defenseman who makes an impact at both ends of the rink. He has great individual skill to make opponents miss. You combine that with very good vision and a hard point shot, and inside the offensive zone he can make a lot happen and be dangerous on a power play. His skating won’t dazzle, but for his size he gets around well enough. He shows some shiftiness to pull away from checks but lacks ideal speed and burst for the NHL level. Despite that, he defends well due to his reach and a high level of physical play, often punishing opposing forwards with his body. He projects as a top pair defenseman.
may need a couple years to mature and adapt to the pro game...that's why a stopgap on the right side would be a big helpo

Would you want another top pick to be a defenseman? Is that need (filled by youth) higher than a center?

You find players like that in the draft or trade. Free agents, the ones that aren't going to perform sodomy on your cap, are either physical or skilled.

Drrafting a d-man top 5 is a terrible move, IMO.
They need high end forward help, even though this draft class is starting to be avg to below avg.

I'm a BPA guy, personally. But if we're picking 5 and Nemec and Jiricek are still available, I'm not writing them off. If the impact projection is all the same (top lines, top pairs) then I may go with the forward. But it's never that simple.
Adams apparently cares about "Sabres DNA", as we're seeing signs of today. I think personality will go a long way is separating who is considered at our pick and who isn't.
Depth of draft matters too. If we walk into that draft with 3-5 1st round picks (crazy I know), how deep are the forwards vs the D? Can a great defenseman be found at 23 that may take another year vs the guy at 5?
Corey Pronman's Draft Prospect Ranking out there...
Wright losing his grip on 1-OA...now challenged by Miro The Rusaian winger, Cooley gaining traction.
Savoie drop to 8.
Nemec ranked right behind Jiricek, both RhDs.
I probably spelled everyone's name wrong, so sue me, lol.
Now, Draft Class is being rated as average or below average by a couple reports.
Draft Jiricek at 5 if he is there...he would be your future 1st pairing with Dahlin...more stay at home, punishing Defender.
Tank again '22-'23...and draft your 1C.
Kinda of, slightly serious...mostly kidding, no need to go off the rails. - IonSabres

I’m betting Covid has disrupted amateur hockey significantly and this draft will need time in a structured organization to properly develop again. Which organization’s can provide consistency will benefit the most IMO.

depends where they draft and who's available...
jiricek might be the choice if they're in the 6-8 range dependent upon who's picked beforehand...
my point was, here's a guy who's a rhd who has size, plays a comepetent two-way game and plays with an edge in his own zone...he'll also need some time to develop properly regardless of where he lands...
everything is in flux right now and things change...offering up definitive answers to anything concerning the draft serves no purpose

yeah...but it's easier said than done...especially free agency when those types of players at that price have much better options than buffalo
