Sabres coach Don Granato announces that defenseman Colin Miller had surgery and will be out six weeks. Goalie Malcolm Subban is out for the season after having surgery. Winger Vinnie Hinostroza out at least three weeks.

Kyle Okposo dealing with "bumps and bruises" from Tuesday.

No concussion for Okposo, Granato says.

Aaron Dell in goal tonight for the Sabres. Jack Quinn will be in the lineup. Spot in top six and top power play.

Casey Mittelstadt on what he's seen from the Sabres: "It’s just a matter of putting it all together ... I think at some point we have to turn the corner here and start finishing those games and having some swagger when it comes down to it. I think I can help with that."

Don Granato had yet to check with Casey Mittelstadt, but the hope is that Mittelstadt will be able to return sometime within the next few games.

Mittelstadt will practice with the Sabres on Friday.

If Mittelstadt can figure out how to get and stay healthy, he's going to have a long career. He has too much talent not to. He may never move the needle, but there will always be a place for his skillset somewhere in this league.

Not too concerned with his injury, considering it was the same injury twice that didn't heal through R&R, my concern is with the training and medical staff. I mean for (frank) sakes.

I'd only be speculating. But if I were Adams, I'd run an audit on the entire staff. Some things are simply unavoidable, some things are just unlucky, but I'd want that audit team to examine every circumstance behind every injury to see what may have been preventable if these players conditioned themselves differently and treated their injuries differently. Or, ya know, Eichel.

My sauce told me Adams and the head physician went at it but the physician held extremely strong to traditional ways that are proven durable. Plus Terry two times loves how cost effective the doc is…

Eichel's neck wasn't even his only issue. He had a lingering abdomen problem for a long time and then I think he had a shoulder thing too.
