It took TB 10 years to win the Cup after drafting Stamkos and 9 years after drafting Hedman. It was not until they got very fortunate with Kucherov and Point that they were able to elevate. - MJL
Yes it took them 10 years to win one but during that time they went to 4 conference finals, a Stanley Cup final, and won a Presidents trophy. What have the Flyers done in the last 10 years? |

Interesting little tidbit from Pierre Lebrun….Flyers and G have not discussed a trade or his no movement clause. G has not even talked to his agent. The Flyers have not engaged with any team about a possible trade. Now as Lebrun points out, there’s lots of time as we are 9 more weeks of misery away from the trade deadline. - landros 2
I am quite skeptical that Giroux is moveable. First impediment is his cap hit. Then there is very limited cap space for those who are interested. Then there are so many other comparable players who have lower hits (Paveslki, Hertl, even Kessel) not to speak of many defensemen who are traditionally more prized for cup runs than a player like Giroux. |

His cap hit will not be an issue with retention. A contract will also likely come back. Very easily moveable.

I think they can trade Giroux but the market is not as wide open as some think as you allude to.
If Carolina is willing to give up a top prospect or a first round pick or both with the Flyers retaining 50%, a team like Carolina could be interested with Nino Neidereiter coming back to the Flyers also. I've look through the playoff teams rosters and there aren't many possibilities such as this out there. |

How does he fit into the flyers window of being a contender? - hello it's me 2050
It is pointless to engage in logical discussions with him. By his own admission, Flyers are at least 5 years away from contention. Then, Couturier will be 35ish. So we will pay him 50m odd to keep him for 2 of his 35+ years.
However, trading him in 2021/now would be tanking.
Which, he will earnestly assure you, he would never support.

100% I am convinced he retires and gets hired by the flyers.

Even with retention, his cap hit is very hefty. Also, look at the leading contenders and tell me which contract would come back. Rangers will have the pick of the crop and I doubt Flyers trade him there.
Look at the rest. |

The market will be what CC says it will be. Simple as that.

Let's start with what you are ridiculously wrong about. According to my definition of tanking, and the rest of the hockey world for that matter. Which is different from yours. Trading Couturier would not constitute tanking. One player move is not tanking. Congrats on changing the atmosphere with one post.
Next, if you want to discuss the merits of trading Couturier, we can do that also. As long as you act like a decent human being and keep the discussion to hockey.

Who are the leading contenders that you think CC would accept to go to?

The Flyers should not avoid trading a player to a rival. If the price is right, they should make it.

Last night Weeks was mentioning Boston. Besides the continuous vomiting state that would put me in, Boston neither has the cap space nor the assets that the Flyers should hold out for if they are trading G. Boston would certainly need G but they have no prospects and can only offer a late 1st round pick which is not enough. Carolina would be an interesting trade partner, as would Minnesota and Vegas. |

you claim cant move CC because of his cap. Yet you insisted ex selke is easily moveable.
Come on Cliff provide some team names he is easily moveable to.

Unless they got a 3rd team involved, Boston would have to clear about 2M in cap space to acquire Giroux at 50%. They could move Jake DeBrusk in that deal or a separate deal. I'm not aware of Boston's prospects enough to comment on that aspect. |

I don't really know how to view that Cup team. They snuck into the playoffs on the last day winning a shootout of all things. Kinda fluky. Do you think that was a Cup caliber team that badly underachieved during the regular season, or a team that got hot in the playoffs? - PLindbergh31
Complete fluke.
Montreal did all the heavy lifting for them.
We all know about the issues with goaltending.
I looked it up once and I believe I found that the guys on the 3rd D pairing played fewer than ten NHL games the rest of their careers.
Big fluke.

I thinks there’s a way…it depends on the team he’s willing to go with. G is the type of player that would demand at least a 1rst. If a team is not willing to pay a price I’d rather hold firm and let him walk into UFA as a Flyer. You most certainly don’t trade him for what ever they will pay. I know some will say this is stupid and poor management of assets, but if he’s willing to go I’m making sure it’s also in the Flyers best interest. It’s not always about just the deal it self, it’s also about the next deal. Fletch can’t be a push over. |

I don't see it as a fluke at all. They were a very talented team that put it together in the playoffs. They came back against a good Boston team. Despite not having a stud goaltender.

Lets say he is willing to waive it for any of the top 5 (entering postseason) teams in each conference. |
