And yet complete soccer kicks have been called goals.
They have no clue what they're calling.
EDIT: And that's why I continue to be on the side that all kicks shouldn't count. - GreatGigInTheSky
Agree, leaving these calls to be judged is baloney.

All calls are judged. That’s what refs do - interpret actions on the ice against the rules as they’re written.
Tripping, embellishment, hooking are all “judged” |

Or

UT Otto Lopez
RHP Bowden Francis
LHP Zach Logue
Either would be fine with me, get it done |

Not crazy about Chapman. Good power sure, but the strikeout and batting average are crappy. Would much rather Jose Ramirez even if it costs more - and it would.

Sure they are, like offside is judged, and flipping the puck over the glass is judged.

Some interesting Q.O./RFA decisions this summer might put some players on the market.
Laine needs a new deal.
M Tkachuk ....9M Q.O. required.
Boeser ...7.5M Q.O.
K.K. ...6M Q.O.
Debrusk ...5M Q.O.
Dubois ...needs a new deal

Yep.
Fully admit my bias as a goalie but I'd just make the rule simple and clear - no goals permitted if in off offensive players foot period hard stop. It would take out the entire argument of intent, kicking motions or re-direct etc. that has proven to be nothing shy of a disaster as there seems to be no consistency.
I mean it's hockey where the point of the game is to put the puck in the net with the stick right?
Goals off shinpads, pants and bodies are fine if it's a deflection and not intentional/
Players have to move their stakes move too much to turn, stop etc. and then trying to determine if the skate movement was for that or to put a puck in the net and then if to put the puck in the net if it was a 'distinct kicking motion' or not is a big ask. To me that's silly creating too much opportunity for a mistake to be made & inconsistency to exist (as it does).
Put I know the league wants goals not saves so if anything it will eventually slide the other way and say something as stupid as as long as it was your skate and the kick was below the waist it's a good goal. - Cush29
I've gone 180 degrees on this in the past ten years - and a large part of it has been due to coaching kids' hockey.
Defencemen are taught to simply lift the stick as the pass comes across the crease.
If you teach kids to let them tie up the stick, and use your feet to steer it towards the net, it creates a lot of opportunities.
Anything to increase scoring - without making the nets bigger. |

Agreed, IMO
Tkachuk, KK and Dubois all get re-signed
DeBrusk, Boeser and Laine are traded.

So TB trades 2 1sts and Nolan Foote(27th overall) for 2 years of Goodrow and Coleman.
Is the asking price really off base for Chychrun? I don't think so. |

I'm all for taking on crap.
But we need to get something good too.
Otherwise just keep Price until he retires and you raise his jersey to the rafters. - Scabeh
Will they do that anyway do you think?

Absolutely they will. IMO the only way Price doesn't get moved is if somehow, the Habs can pull a Chicago/Red Wings/Habs con job to convince the NHL that Price's career is over due to injuries and escape the cap hit. Otherwise he will be traded. If Leafs could trade Phaneuf, Habs can trade Price. |

Gorton cleaned house and unloaded big time when he replaced Sather in NY. Habs hired him to do the same IMO. Gorton and his translater GM will be unloading big time to make cap room and get picks and prospects. Price is the biggest cap hit on the team. He will be moved IMO, if not during the season, in the offseason. - winsix
I agree but they can do better than trash and a 2nd

I'm working pretty hard because of the pandemic.
Don't have much time for hockeybuzz these days, hopefully I'll be around more and the Leafs will also lose more. |

So this is an interesting debate - is he worthy of having his jersey retired?
It's a pretty high bar in Montreal.
And related - does he go to the HHOF?
In terms of individual awards, he had one outstanding season, winning the Hart, Jennings, Vezina and Lindsay awards.
Other than that, the trophy case is bare.
At the international level, one gold in the Olympics. 0.6 GAA, .972 sv%, but the team was ridiculous.
Gold at WJC, tournament MVP.
And keep in mind, it's almost impossible for goalies to go to the HHOF.
Check out the goalie inductee list since 1988:
1988: Tony Esposito
1989: Tretiak
1993: Billy Smith
2003: Grant Fuhr
2006: Patrick Roy
2011: Ed Belfour
2014: Dominic Hasek
2016: Rogie Vachon (wtf?)
2018: Martin Brodeur
2020: Kim St. Pierre
So in 38 years, 10 goalies, two who weren't in the NHL, one who was from the previous era.
Tough to say Price makes the cut.
I remember when Belfour was elected, and there were tons of people who said he shouldn't have made it.

MAF should get in ahead of Price.
