I've gone 180 degrees on this in the past ten years - and a large part of it has been due to coaching kids' hockey.
Defencemen are taught to simply lift the stick as the pass comes across the crease.
If you teach kids to let them tie up the stick, and use your feet to steer it towards the net, it creates a lot of opportunities.
Anything to increase scoring - without making the nets bigger.

What's wrong with a hard fought 1-1 tie for god sakes? or even better 0-0!
The other piece is as the rules keep changing some records become less and less likely to stand and that sucks as the new record holder broke or will break the record with advantages the old one never had. I get the players getting better and equipment changing and getting better but at least the goalies got better and better gear too. Changing the fundamentals of goals being scored just seems wrong to me but m'eh it is what it is and I know what I want is not what the league says most people want.
