@Account4hockey
Frank Seravalli says on SN650 that Kane, Toews, and Seth Jones are the only untouchables for CHI. If you want to take a run at trading for anyone else, they'll listen.

So a blockbuster with DBC included??? This surprises me as it's not really in line with a rebuilding team approach. Unless, they've already talked to all three of those players and all nixed a trade.

- pdx2ord

If a discussion with Toews and Kane indeed occurred, let’s hope that all parties involved understand that their next contract must come at a much lower AAV.

I guess we all say this coming for C. Jones. Also the the fact the centers on L3 and L4 aren't switched is laughable.

Blackhawks lines in practice:

Hagel-Strome-Kane
DeBrincat-Toews-Kubalik
Kurashev-Lafferty-Entwistle
Carpenter-Borgstrom-Khaira

McCabe-Seth Jones
De Haan-Murphy
Stillman-Gustafsson
Caleb Jones

- Chunk

I’d rather switch Borgstrum and Entwistle. Give the 3rd line more offensive skills.

Look, realistically its moving deck chairs on the titanic. Of those 6 players listed on the last 2 lines is there any one of them that is a "must keep". Kurashev would come the closest.

Nope, but this season can best be used for talent evaluation, and putting players in position to use their talents best would be the prudent move.

I like the cut of this GM's jib...feel like there are a lot of "I used to the be star" players who grew up making highlight reel plays in their youth who are now better role players than anything, who therefore need to hear and heed this type of advice. Interesting it came from a GM (didn't some of you want to look at Geurin for the Hawks' job?)

@johndietzdh
Hartman said Minnesota GM Billy Geurin is "not afraid to tell you, 'Listen, you're not a 100-point guy or a skill guy that's gonna feed a perfect pass every time. Shoot the damn puck.'”

I listened to a long interview recently of Mike Forde, his company is Sportsology, done a couple yrs ago by Friedman and Marek. Going from memory what he does is look at sport's organIzations and how it hires and promotes.

Gave examples of franchises hiring the top assistant from a Super Bowl winning team and how often that worked out, percentage wise. How often a top assistant took over for a team that had recently won a World Series that he was already working for and how often that worked out, percentage wise.

Who were the people hired, where did they come from, what positions did they hold on the way up and are holding before being hired or promoted to the big seat. ....... What was the methodology for hiring people and what the data showed for the profile of a winning manager, profile being the operative term. A proper process will uncover the person with the right profile for a job is their claim and by all accounts Sportsology has been successful.

What is the profile of the most successful managers and organIzational structures.

No, Sportsology will probably not make a recommendation by name but will show Rocky and his Boy candidates that fit the profile of successful managers and/or teach them how to identify the profile of a winner. In that context they will make a hire is how the company sells itself.

No, Rocky doesn't know who the assistant to the GM is in NJ before hand but will run profiles on many many people and that assistant would fit as a possibility and thru the process will or will not fit a profile of a person that has gone on to a successful managerial career.

Have a listen to that interview by Marek and Friedman with Forde. "an example is the average time to hire an NFL GM is 17 days" is the kinda stuff this dude gathers. https://canucksbanter.ca/...ughts-the-podcast/page/2/

I don't mind Fleury, and re-signing him for 2 @ $5mil or so is ok. I'm not a $7-10mil for a goalie guy, especially for a team that is not a cup contender.
- TheTrob

I think so so or weak goaltending can really hamper any rebuild. See Toronto and Edmonton for the last 10 years. I would not mind retaining Fleury for another year. But I would go one year at a time.

Shouldn't that be the coach's job? Maybe the GM doesn't have the correct coach if he has to coach the players.

Maybe that was his discussion with Hartman right after the signing.

Toews and Kane are only signed through next season, if Toews stays with the Hawks, I am sure his extension would be for a lot less $'s (like 3C dollars). Kane could possibly command a big AAV if he wants to stay. If he doesn't sign by next TDL, I am sure the Hawks would not risk losing him for no return.
- LAHawk

Neither one should command big AAV at this point in their careers. While they are still both the most effect at their positions on the team at this point, the decline is real.

Kane is still producing at a PPG pace having a down year. He'll command a pretty penny. He won't get much term, but he'll get some dollars.

The LA Kings are methodically building a juggernaut.

They’re gonna be a nightmare for the rest of the league within the next couple years. I really like the collection of young talent they have. And the addition of Danault down the middle at a fair price has taken some pressure off of Kopitar.

MTL, just like us, was foolish to let go of Danault.

By that logic, maybe they want to see how Entwhistle does as a 3c. He does have better offensive stats than Borgstrom arguably playing with worse offensive players. If you extrapolate Entwhistles stats over a full season to 30 points, that could fit in a 3c role.

I wouldn't be against that. Entwistle seems to have some strange ability to generate chances and points. I think Lafferty there is a waste of time.

Just me. Please remember I have no hockey playing experience. This is simply how I think it should be done.

We shall see. They have a DEEP pool of top-end young talent and are already showing early signs/flashes of excellence. Their front office has been slowly building towards this plan and you can see it starting to pay off.

I like the way they built up and developed their young assets/prospects. Unfortunately much different than the way we handled things. Looking back on it they chose the right path and the proper way to go about a rebuild IMO.

Good for him. He's producing at about a point per game this year. Quite the journey for him to get to this point.

He has so much offensive firepower surrounding him irregardless how he has scored. What did Buffalo get for Rinehart? They have a well rounded team. Goaltending could be an issue if Bob is off and they have to rely on the young kid Knight.

New blog! A look at the Blackhawks goalie prospects headlined by Drew Commesso and Arvid Soderblom with honorable mentions to Dominic Basse and Cale Morris.

Plus, updates on the active roster and on who is supposedly untouchable from a trade perspective.

Game vs Wild tonight. Also, IceHogs vs Stars.
