People are already drawing parallels between Wright and NP, so you may get your wish!

You seriously have to consider the issues this team has had in developing defenseman. You put Provorov on Carolina or Florida and he's a stud defenseman that would be coveted. Would have to be a deal too good to turn down to move him.
- MJL

Or Pittsburgh now that Hextall is there, right? An absolute stud!!

I can’t speak for anyone else but I don’t have very many issues with Ristolainen. Do I think he’s one of the best in the league? No. Do I think he’s the best defenseman on this team? Nope! I look at him as no different than Nicolas Grossmann, Luke Schenn or denis gauthier. He just adds an element we were desperately missing last season.

Risto, MacEwan…we’re notably tougher, finally and we’re still complaining.

- SuperSchennBros

Dude Risto is much better than Gauthier. the only thing gauthier could do was throw massive hits that put him way out of position

Yes but we gave up a marginal NHL defenseman and Zak Rosen to get Risto, so that makes the trade unacceptable no matter what Risto does or doesn't do.
- jd250

No you gave up a 1st rd pick.

I am with you on this. I see people say there are no keepers on defense. But in order to break this cycle—of slotting young defenseman in the lineup higher than they are ready for and without good support—we need to keep some of the current group. If Provorov is at least a #2 who can absorb big minutes, he stays at least through his contract which is a fair deal.

To the people who say no keepers on D, are you including prospects or young guys like York, Zamula, Attard etc? How long until we have a decent core again?

Who do we play the young guys coming in with? Too much youth and inadequate support…We have seen that movie before.

When looking at players like Frost and York, it's really far too soon to judge that in my opinion. Statistical averages in my opinion are a poor way to set the bar for expectations. Personal expectations are of course different from the consensus expectations for a player from the hockey community.
- MJL

For those like York and Frost, with very little to almost no NHL experience, I simply looked at what they've done thus far. Not sure why a statistical average is a poor way to set the bar for expectations

I think he's a Phaneuf, McDonagh, JBo, Tyler Myers level defenseman. Very good, but not good enough to build a team around. He would make a great wing man to somebody like Hedman or Ekblad.
- Tomahawk

That’s exactly what I said about Provy, he’s in mcdonaughs category. It’s ok if he’s your #1 on a deep strong defensive unit, which we clearly do not have, but he’s a better suited #2.

- PLindbergh31

Nah, but he's missed a lot of development time due to Covid shutdowns. And people are talking like he might be stunted, based on how not elite he's looked this year.

And there's now a handful of guys hot on his heels who could knock him out of the #1 spot.

They could go either way but nothing they do is going to hurt the chemistry . The moves they make will involve their 1st rd pick and non roster players for a Giroux or Giordano type

It isn't, it just doesn't support his narrative is why he is questioning you. Look no farther than York was drafted by Fletcher and Frost by Hextall as the reason why.

It's the same reason why LA didn't trade Kopitar when they weren't good. You gotta keep somebody around who can play and anchor the skaters so the kids don't get reamed.

McDonagh is one of the best pure defenders in the league with offensive ability. I would love for Provorov to get to that level. I don't disagree, he is not a franchise player.

Lay out the 5 year plan Cliff. You know you want to. I want to see where ex selke fits in at 35 years old on this team.

Do not understand this logic at all when looking at where this team is at

me either, he could get probably the most in a trade, but we chose to keep him for a rebuild.

There was a time this year, a stretch of about 10 games, where Risto was far and away the Flyers best defenseman. He may still be given how bad everyone except York is playing, especially your boy Provorov. And as far as MacEwen, I am well in the majority of opinions that believe he has made a positive impact on this team and many would like to see him stay with the Flyers next year. Instead of immersing yourself in 4th line possession metrics, spend some time actually watching him play. He is a 4th line energy guy, nothing more, but he does a good job with it for the most part.
- jd250

Ristolainen never came close to being the Flyers best defenseman at any point in the season in my opinion. The your boy and watch the game comments don't help your case.
McEwen plays hard and skates hard. Tends to make one decent offensive play a game but overall is ineffective and is a lesser player to Aube-Kubel.

So this draft doesn't have what would be considered a day 1 NHL stud?

Keith Jones seems to think he has top 6 talent, so let's say 2C, but when is he going to start showing it?
- jd250

Id be really happy with 2c. I hope it happens. I used to think he'd be a good 2c. Now I'm not so sure

Many player are different. There is too much noise above and below. Is every players potential measured off of the average statistics for a player? Is that how NHL talent scouts assess a players potential?

Nah he aint bringing back any type of haul at this stage imo. Still would move him

If JT Miller is moved I cant wait to see what he gets back in a trade. Whatever it is add to it as that is what ex selke could have have retuned a year ago with 2 playoff runs available.
