Ellis - The Preds really lucked out that the Flyers came along. I would wager that the Flyers have the record over the last 20 years in LTIR games due to having their over 30 #1 defenseman who they traded for going on LTIR and never playing again. Darien Hatcher, Chris Pronger, Ryan Ellis.
The Flyers can't guy their way out of this, they have one of the worst cap situations in the league (because they tried to buy their way out of this).
Draft - The flyers are missing their next 2 2nd rounders already and last year's first was wasted on Risto pending the return at the deadline for him.
Hextall's execution may have been lacking but he had the right idea. His biggest problem was not going far enough, most likely because comcast wouldn't allow it.
No more bandaids. Whatever you need to pay the best talent scouts, pay it, that's where the money needs to be spent.
If you can't hit on some draft picks nothing else matters. I think the Flyers only have 13 players that are under NHL contract for next year and all but one make over $3 mill a year. That is without resigning Giroux. The Flyers have one of the worst ROI per cap $ spent. - Flyers_01

He was healthy. One game in the AHL was fine. Then a call up needed to happen Nothing to gain for him in the AHL right now. There is a rush when he is clearly a better option than many on the roster. - hello it's me 2050
It's no longer about what's better for the Flyers..its better to lose and not expose a guy like Allison to this losing atmosphere. Let him get 100% healthy. Flyers should do nothing to give the team a better chance to win
Another "ex-selke" with a long injury history is still going strong at age 36, which is the age Couturier will be at the start of the final season of his contract.
1. Bergeron has 2 elite wingers on his line who he has been playing with continuously for 5 years. There are synergy effects. Not true for Couturier.
2. Boston is in the tail end of a long run as a contender, during which they won once and went to the SCF. They have not started the rebuild period yet. We haven't either but we should have.
It's not just a comparison of player versus player. Its also a comparison of team versus team and expected trajectory of team versus expected trajectory of team.
Throwing jerseys on the ice got Benning fired. Throwing jerseys got Bergevin fired. Oilers fans are currently throwing jerseys. Flyers fans need to get busy chucking all the jerseys on the ice!

Horrible signs also led Braman to sell the Eagles. Bags on heads, jerseys on ice, awful signs everywhere you can see and Comcast may decide to sell the team or at least clean house.

Maybe Allison is a leader and they can use someone like him in the room no?
He is playing he is healthy. That is not valid saying let him get healthy.
With Buffalo being the opponent tomorrow, remember last year when the Sabres had an 18 game losing streak, and poop pumped the Pharces 6-1. Another stellar moment for this big top franchise. - PLindbergh31
They almost beat Dallas last night. Get ready for another "L" from the group who knows how to provide them.
Do not understand this logic at all when looking at where this team is at - hello it's me 2050
There is certainly no hockey logic.
The reason people cannot part with the idea of not parting with Couts is:
1. Because they evaluate him individually, without team context.
2. Because they still cling to the idea that with Couts and a gallant and uninjured cast, this team will be a contender in the near future.
3. Because hockey teams rarely trade an own guy like Couts. The reason they don't though is because of ticket revenue, not hockey reasons.
4. Because there is a lack of appetite for radical, painful solutions.

better be on the phone with the Oilers, they are desperate
It's the same reason why LA didn't trade Kopitar when they weren't good. You gotta keep somebody around who can play and anchor the skaters so the kids don't get reamed. - Tomahawk
No, the reason LA did not trade Kopitar during the rebuild process was: 1. He was signed to a huge salary and a loong contract was already 30ish. 2 He had a NMC.
You have said this multiple times, and there is no evidence whatsoever to back up your claim. If what you claim was a valid factor (needing not just a veteran player to mentor young ones, but a stud veteran player), you would see not just teams clinging on to their studs, but also bringing in vet studs.
There is no such market. Young teams like Florida, Detroit, etc are not bringing in anyone like that. Florida let Jagr go with his phenomenal work ethic. When Rangers started their rebuild, they got rid off every single player over 25 over a period of a few years.
I have no issues with Ristolainen. He has been a good Dmen for PHI for the 2nd pair. He is one of few Dmen on the team that actually makes a clear pass out of the zone. Love the way he clears the net. I am ok if they move him at the deadline and try to bring him back in the off season - xShoot4WarAmpsx
I still would not have made the Risto trade, but I will admit, he has been, (at least to me with my limited viewing), not the disaster I thought he would be. To me, he has looked the best to 2nd best of the D this season, though that is not saying much I know.
Yesterday I was semi-dozing in front of tv, and during one of CBJ pps in the 2nd period, Risto muscled in near the corner boards and just took the puck away with sheer physicality.
I had not seen such effortless dominance in a Flyers uniform since Pronger left. It might have been momentary and not sustained, but it woke me up for 5 mins.
A friend gave me a 65" tv ..got it set up today...and am wishing there was a Flyers content lockout in the security section.
I am at the point where I want to glue a strip of paper across the bottom so I do not see their scores for the rest of the season, while watching all the out of town teams....
Someone said many empty seats last night? Good, keep it up. Stop filling the parking/trinket/jersey/program, food concession stands coffers. When the revenue goes down something else will "go down" as the old cliche goes

Oof. I remember those days.
Were you in Philly at that time? I was actually at the "Keep Reggie" protest on the west side of City Hall that morning.
What a poop show the 90s was on that front.
Braman was a weird dude. Car dealer wealth and mentality. Summer house in southern France with many original Picassos.

save yourself the glue and just download OBS and put an overlay on the video and stream it to your tv
This Hextall schtick you have is beyond absurd. I'm extremely high on York and I very much with my limited knowledge of the players, as whole like Fletcher's drafting with the Flyers. - MJL
Ok, good to hear. But the Hextall schtick is fun for me, its your version of the Risto schtick you give me all the time.

IIRC they weren't looking to trade Kopi or Doughty, regardless of contract status.
Flordia - PT21
Roberto Luongo, Keith Yandle

One of the first things they did during the rebuild was to sign 28-yo Panarin in UFA. They kept Kreider around too when they had multiple opportunities to trade him for a lot of assets.
