Whats that got to do with me asking what his ceiling is? If we are talking about purging everyone. We need to know what his ceiling is to see what we can expect of him going forward. Or are we at the point we just hope he can stay and contribute in the NHL.
- bradster

It is a fair question and one we need to answer. I just find the focus of some on this board about this kid in light of everything going on to be strange and almost as strange as how our interim coach chooses to use him. I would like to get enough information to answer that question and similar ones for Sushko, Sandin, Honigberg, Zamula, and Ratcliffe. I have zero confidence that Chuckles will do these things in a meaningful way.

He is supposed to be a "Core" piece going forward. So yes focus needs to be on him right now.
- hello it's me 2050

Exactly. Barret Hayton, the other part of those Soo teams, younger than Frost, has struggled to start his career as well. Not sure what draft it was but I think Arizona took him top 5 lol

Do you really think this kid is the problem? What a joke. Let's swap him out for another team's reject like Cliff likes and see if that leads to a different outcome against Buffalo. Wake up and smell the coffee, dude.
- iamscore2day

No he is not the problem.
He is an indictment on the organization and there development practices.
I merely have not seen him be the same as the kid who was lighting up juniors and we hoped would be a difference maker.
Everyone continues to see his upside as something I would like to see but, don't see it happening here for him.
Then when he does go to another team I know for sure he will become the second coming of whoever and win a cup...
Just don't see it happening here.
Sorry Dude!!

I understand Frost's line mates are a joke, but at least with MacEwen I see a player that is trying out there, making plays, even 1 against 3 plays. What is Frost doing with the time he has? When has Frost made an assertive play like we see MacEwen do game after game? With Frost's supposed top 6 skills, at least get some shots on goal and create some scoring chances. He doesn't even do that. What kind of player are we talking about that apparently can't make an impact unless he plays with all stars? Is that what we are saying Frost is?

Kid, make a play .. stand out ... do something that says you want to be on this team!

- jd250

He made a number of good plays, actually. Seems like you missed them.
- Tomahawk

Yes, I have missed them. Perhaps I will see them when he plays with G and Cam on the top line.

I think it is a certainty that we are going to make some moves that will result in additions to the already long list of former Flyers winning cups with other teams. Whether this kid is one remains to be seen. The problem with this organization is that there is such a long list of things that we screw up and they are all more evidence of mismanagement. With that in mind, I think it is almost a certainty that if we fire Chuckles (which he deserves), we will bring in a new person who is committed to "Flyers Hockey." Ugh.

Here is the situation with Ristolainen and it's nothing new. If you put him on a very good team with a solid partner and play him in a reduced role, he would be okay. That's not enough for the Flyers. You don't give up what they gave up for a player who in the last year of his deal with UFA leverage to just play okay. He doesn't and he's not capable of elevating the team in any way. He is exactly what myself and many others knew he was. Unfortunately, the GM was infatuated.
- MJL

As I have posted, I think Risto does a good job adding a physical element and separating players from the puck, but where I am disappointed in him is his transition game, his first pass up the ice, what I consider his poor skating ability and his lack of offense. That is why I don't believe the Flyers should resign him, especially when I think they have a chance to rekindle a 1st round pick at least.

In the end it turned out to be a gamble not worth taking, but I'm glad Fletcher tried it. Now I hope Fletcher evaluates Risto objectively and makes the right decision to not extend him.

Nothing. It's a term dinosaurs love. 70s hockey won't cut it today. Anyone who says they need to get back to "Flyers hockey" should be dismissed.

It is called incompetence by the GM and AV junior. That would also increase his value.
- hello it's me 2050

maybe theres a little "tanking" going on? Obviously they aren't going to come out and say it.

Pretty sure the book is closed on those players except Zamula. I hope not but even if they become nhl players, they will not be top of the lineup plays. So easily replaceable.

Give me any of Risto, Sanheim or Lindblom on the PP over Zack 2.0 and Yandle's corpse.

And how does everyone play when their 5-on-5 linemates are current day JvR+Mayhew or MacEwen + Bunnaman/Cates? Because those have been his main linemates for the past eight games. Is THAT putting an offensive player in position to succeed?

As relates to the power play, it's a mess on both units.

- bmeltzer

It’s truly infuriating at this point. They have ZERO chance to make the playoffs so at the very least, give the kids a legit shot!

Again, it all comes down to a lack of talent..period. When was the last time we as a Flyers fan base — win or lose — had players like a Clarke, Barber, Kerr, Howe, Tocchet, Brindamour, Lindros, Desjardins, JR, Pronger, Forsberg to root for? (yea, I know I’m missing a few others, but you get the point).

There’s no player on this team (hasn’t been for years) that I get jacked to watch play on this team…no one. You CANNOT win in this league without talent. You, Flyers, have succeeded the past few seasons to decimate this roster with plug-ins, horrible contracts, and at best, marginal talent. You’re losing fans…f’in joke. Show fans you care!

Ristolainen is exactly what he is advertised to be. Robert Haag added a physical element and separated players from the puck.

The very notion of considering it a gamble is absurd. As a team, you take gambles when your on the verge of being able to contend for a cup and your looking for another piece. When you're a team in the Flyers position, you need to make smart and calculated moves. It wasn't a gamble. It was desperation and incompetence.

Somehow in the space of 15-20 games, in your eyes Ristolainen has gone from the best defenseman on the team and one of the best in the league to a player that they shouldn't extend.
