If MacEwen was only playing 8mins a night, there wouldn't be a problem.

But last night he played almost 13mins, 3mins on the PP, and Yeo put his line out down a goal with 3:00 to go. And it wasn't like he was effective at all.

- Tomahawk

What you are talking about is a coaching issue not a 4th line personnel issue.

We discussed the PP previously, and I wanted them to try Risto at net front. But most thought that net front isn’t the issue. I threw MacEwen’s name out as if just anyone would work. Immediately someone said that he doesn’t have the hands, and they are right at present. This has been a longer look than they gave most options. Time to give someone else a look.

Net front isn’t the only issue, but I think it’s the one they need to fix first. These PP issues aren’t new. If it’s a personnel issue, it has been a few years now that Fletcher could fix it. If they bet on Allison, bring him up then. There are a couple other youngsters they haven’t tried at all.

Love the new image! Best thing I have seen on this board all day. If we can get the fans who go to games to do the same, it may make a differnce!

NAK with 13 points in 26 games for Colorado. Maybe they could have tried him netfront on PP2 if they hadn't waived him while keeping MacEwen and Thompson.

Throwing jerseys on the ice got Benning fired. Throwing jerseys got Bergevin fired. Oilers fans are currently throwing jerseys. Flyers fans need to get busy chucking all the jerseys on the ice!

What does "Flyers Hockey" mean?

Sure we used to be the toughest team in the league and had numerous players that would drop the gloves.

But to me, Flyers Hockey meant giving an honest effort. Playing for the crest. Playing for (and defending) your teammates. That was more than just fighting and knocking the spit out of someone. Every time I tuned in to listen to Gene Hart or Doc Emmerick, I knew I was going to see a team that gave their all for the organ-I-zation. Even if they lost, I knew they left it all out on the ice.

I just haven't seen that in several years. Sure not having Mr. Snider around removes part of that "family" attitude. It is more corporate now. But I just don't see the effort.

Oh my god, CC stands for Captain Comfortable? You really are a sad little man.

As for the rest of your post, no, keeping a 1C on a below market deal is not hindering any team. Least of all a Flyers club with very little center depth.

Like I said earlier you are blind.

Because the Flyers have me in a depressed state, I was wondering how things have gotten so bad in a 2 season span? I know they exceeded expectations when they went to the 2nd round and lost to the Islanders in the "bubble", but I'm not sure many of us expected this! I took a deep dive into the Flyers roster and looked at several things; who drafted/acquired the players, what round they were drafted, where they play in the lineup (Top 6/Bottom6, 1st/2nd Pair/3rd Pair) and whether they are exceeding, meeting or below expectations (which is obviously subjective).

Fletcher is responsible (draft/trade/FA signing) for 16/28 (57%) of the current players on the roster. 1 is exceeding expectations (York), 7 are meeting expectations and 8 are below, for essentially a 50/50 split. 2 are top 6 forwards, 6 bottom six forwards and 2 1st/2nd pair defensemen, 5 3rd pair defensemen and 1 goalie.

Hextall is responsible (draft/trade/FA signing) for 9/28 (32%) of the current players on the roster. 4 players are meeting expectations and 5 are below expectations for a 50/50 split yet again. 3 Top 6 forwards, 3 Bottom 6 forwards, 2 1st/2nd Pair Defensemen and 1 goalie.

Homer and Clarke have a total of 3 players (Giroux, Couturier and Laughton) remaining on the team of the 28 total (10%). 2 of which are meeting expectations and 1 who is not. 2 are top 6 forwards and the other is a bottom 6.

Based on this information the majority of the poop show that has become the Flyers can be equally blamed on both Fletcher and Hextall. They both made poor FA signings/trades and had inadequate drafts. There are 14 first round picks on the team at the moment and only one of them is exceeding expectations (York). I can't definitively say, like some on this forum, that it's more one GM than the other who should bear the brunt of the blame. IMHO, they both have performed below expectations and until they start drafting/developing better, we'll be in for an almost unwatchable product on the ice!

- aantny88

I agree with your basic premise. That said, draft picks take a little time, and it is too soon to judge the picks under Fletcher (a few under Hextall also). I think they are doing a better job drafting, but they need to accumulate more picks over the next few years not trade them away. The chance to start on that is coming up at the trade deadline.

With Buffalo being the opponent tomorrow, remember last year when the Sabres had an 18 game losing streak, and poop pumped the Pharces 6-1. Another stellar moment for this big top franchise.

I don’t have one single issue with MacEwen. I don’t understand what this fanbase is expecting of their fourth liners. How about this. Let’s get out top nine to score and properly defend as a unit and worry about what an 8 minute a night can do later.

More than 3 points in 38 games.

In 19-20 Pitlick had 20 points in 68 games, Raffl had 20 points in 58 games, and NAK had 15 points in 36 games.

Mcewen is the least of our worries on this team. Are you guys bored, and need to complain about our 4th liners? lol

Lol. It’s amazing what happens when players leave for competent organizations. Happy for NAK and any other player that will part ways with this circus act

Thank you! I didn't include any of Fletcher's draft picks outside of Cam York, because he's the only one currently on the Flyers roster. Hopefully guys like Forester, Andre, Wisdom, Desnoyers, and others turn into significant contributors in the future!

I’m watching Patrick Laine play last night and I remember reading on this board that “Laine isn’t a player you win with”, which is why it’s good we didn’t make an offer for him to the Jets. We’re team that went winless ten times, twice this season. With Travis Konency going 20 games in a row without scoring. If you can’t win with Patrick Laine, who on this roster can we win with?

I understand Frost's line mates are a joke, but at least with MacEwen I see a player that is trying out there, making plays, even 1 against 3 plays. What is Frost doing with the time he has? When has Frost made an assertive play like we see MacEwen do game after game? With Frost's supposed top 6 skills, at least get some shots on goal and create some scoring chances. He doesn't even do that. What kind of player are we talking about that apparently can't make an impact unless he plays with all stars? Is that what we are saying Frost is?

Kid, make a play .. stand out ... do something that says you want to be on this team!

- jd250

Maybe he doesn't want to be on this team anymore either?! Would you blame him?

'The point is don't complain that mcewen is crap. Complain how he is being used. As everyone has been, but don't redirect it on him. He is doing his job fine.
There's no issue with mcewen at all.

Nor was the rest of the team, the highly paid players, the guys paid to eat minutes and score and keep the other team from scoring. Maybe this was a reward for hard work and not taking shifts off. Maybe this was a message to the guys who are not performing as expected. No MacEwan isn’t the answer, but perhaps his work ethic is part of the solution.

What they have done really doesn't matter. The GM made this team worse is what matters.

Haag = RR.
