Maybe to be a player, if I could be a really good one. I wouldn’t want to be a coach or a GM. Doesn’t sound like any fun to me. - Dkos
I think the unspoken devil in wanting to be one of those is having to toe the company line when interviewed, dodging truth, handing out cliches etc when you want to scream at someone. Even for a player being interviewed after yet another loss. You are a multi million salaried corporate employee, no matter if a player or a GM or Coach at that level and are only allowed to show emotion in game or in the locker room or behind closed doors....

You're right unless you're John Tortorella.

He is "special" and the outlier in the tight lipped, grim faced stoic world of hockey professionals..and he is American so he doesn't have that matter of fact unflappable nature as Anglo-Canadians do from their UK heritage.

I like Torts. I typically don't like that kind of attitude from anyone, but he's only reacting to the nonsense that hockey media brings to him. He says what a lot of these guys want to say, but as you mentioned, TOO CANADIAN to do so.

since scouting has been pretty tough lately we should get as many picks as possible so we have a better chance of hitting a home run |

Hopefully we see a few come our way by the trade deadline.
Not holding my breath tho. |

yea if we miss on another top 5 pick but hit a home run on something 15+ then it's pretty easy to swallow even more so if they come in the 2nd or 3rd round |

At least in 2006-2007, I got to watch my favorite hockey player of all time play 40 games. Peter Forsberg on one foot is better than most of this roster. |

That would be rad, but when has this organization ever really gotten lucky on a late round pick?
The current roster and really the last 5 years, is full of first rounders. Hasn't meant a damn thing.
Sorry, I'm really not trying to be such a downer, but it's just dark my friends. |

Imagine if Jay Snider did not trade him for Lindros. These things kill me. We have the guy and we send him off for someone who ends up not being as good. |

61% of the players (11) are former 1st rd picks. Would like to see what teams have more or where that stacks u league wide. |

Fletcher needs to go but even more so this is all on Scott, Holmgren, Clarke and the rest of the country club. Unless they go also, it's not going to matter. - MJL
If Clarke and or Homer still ran the team we would have Makar right now.
However, I could see Homer called back into service temporarily should they decide to clip Fletcher before another GM was selected.
Either way there are three folks to blame for this mess: Scott, Hexy and Fletcher.
Let’s stop deflecting shall we.. |

None of us saw this coming, and anyone who states now they did is a big LIAR! Coming into this season, this team looked to rebound and be a contender. They looked to have the depth and improved talent to be a contender, it just has not worked out. Injuries, Covid, the coaching change; all of these things have played a major role in the downfall of this season. I understand as fans we are frustrated and its human nature to want or even have to point the finger at someone, but I am just pointing out its not all on Fletcher, he has tried to make this team better. When Fletcher signed AV to coach this team the fan base approved; after all we had a real NHL coach instead of a college coach, a coach who had won 700 games and been to the finals with two different franchises. We were happy when we got two former head coaches as assistant coaches, finally someone was going to fix the defense and the special teams on this club! There was real trepidation when Hayes was traded for and signed, but most of us understood that this team needed a 2nd line center with Schenn traded and Patrick not playing. Most of us were happy with the 2019 season, a year where the Flyers came within 1 win of the final 4 and was the best team in the league before it shutdown. Most of us were happy that Fletcher did little in that following off season and felt the team, especially the younger players, would take the next step in 2020. Then Covid hit and the 2020 season and team fell apart. Fletcher responded by making changes for the 2021 season that filled the obvious gaps on the team, including getting a true top pairing RHS defenseman, a true 2nd pairing defenseman who actually hits people, and a shoot first mentality goal scorer, all clear needs of this team coming into 2021. Well, here we are, it didn't work out the way we hoped. AV lost the team, his assistants were not much better, the Flyers best defenseman got hurt along with other key players and the season is a wash. It sucks, I get it. But completely blaming Fletcher for this mess is irrational and hysterical. He did a good job, it just didn't work out. It happens sometimes, that's why the season is played! Look, I still believe the Flyers would benefit from another outside voice and that is what I am calling for, because it a rational response to probably the worst season I have ever lived through as a Flyers fan. - jd250
People did see this coming, the one who thought that the moves chuckle mad were not going to improve the team. It seems that those who thought the moves that were made were good ones, were wrong, while those critical of chuckles were right |

His career ended up not being as good but they'll never be another Lindros. Men his size end playing football. Dude was Linebacker on skates with elite talent. And FloHaake, Fopa is my favorite player too. |

Last week it was Clarke…lol. Some just can’t look at the whole thing. This organization down fall has been a decade long process where they never got better, whiffed on some draft picks, had some bad signings and over all made some poor decisions.
I’m not saying Hextall didn’t do some good things, I’m not saying Fletcher didn’t attempt to right the ship. But results matter…and the both of them made enough blunders to share in this. - landros 2
this is true, theres enough disaster going on where they should equally be blamed .Most on here thought they were a good team 2 years ago, then covid ....but we all know now that was just a hot streak, and wasnt the real team. But being bad now and having no top line prospect in the system really stings. At least if we had good prospects we would have something to look forward to, but we arent even sure when we have in the pipe. A bunch of 3rd line guys maybe. Hopefully a couple 2nd line guys. Its like we need to start from scratch everywhere. That doesnt happen over night, this is years in the making. |

Team achievements aside, I'd put Lindros right there with Forsberg as an individual player. Forsberg was unbelievably good but I've never seen a more dominant player that Lindros. |

To be fair, many scouts thought Patrick would top out as a high end 2C. That being said, it was hard to fault the selection at the time. - BiggE
but if he doesnt listen to his scouts. and someone even correcting clarkes story saying it was heiskenen and not makar makes me think it was true. But some chose what to believe and not to believe. Such is life. ITs in the past, theres blame all around, we need to focus on getting better. Maybe need to tank next year, use cap space to take other players teams want to dump with a year left on the contract like the yotes did this year. They have a bundle of picks. our included lol

There was something a few years back, a crazy fellow crying about people attacking Britney Spears.
It's what those defending Fletcher sound like.
