I’m not trying to attack him, and if it seemed like it I am trying to clarify that.
He is incredibly professional, in his writing. He knows his stuff as some would say, to put it simply.
I’ve listened to the podcasts he mentions. I’ve listened to Bundy speak out as well.
I hold steady that we are in dire need for light to be placed on certain individuals, on certain elements of this team. That light to just be seen behind closed doors, but to the public eye.
Comcast has shown zero ability to run this franchise. The steps needed, are going to have to be forced upon them. Mentioning a coaches name, or the name of a struggling young player isn’t anywhere near enough. Why not dare whisper the name of say, Dave Brown? Bill Barber? Lombardi? Fletcher? Just examples but names nonetheless.
Again, so we believe there would be this much silence in say a Toronto, or New York? - FlyerFan3260

A full rebuild may take 400 games like this, and there are no guarantees it will yield success. Will we fans be able to perservere, keep faith, etc or will the knives be out for every single scapegoat? - PT21
The answer to that is a resounding no. Fans will be kept happy for the most if they just make the playoff and win a round every once in a while. Fans need to demand more and be willing to accept that fixing this will take time. With no guarantee that the process will give reasonably quick results. If they get a high pick and make it count or get lucky on some later picks, it can happen faster. Any reasonable fan should be able to look and see what this team needs.

I’m 56 years old, my first live in person Flyers game was at 4 years old during Clarke’s rookie season. I love the guy, but he needs to go. MJL was spot on earlier, the entire front office from Scott down to the assistant GMs need to go. So do the coaches, trainers, medical staff and developmental staff.
The organization is a complete disaster. Chuck Fletcher, whether it was at the orders of Dave Scott or not, thoroughly wrecked this team with his horrid off season moves and by overpaying for players, especially Hayes.
I have seen this team struggle and face adversity before. The 1979 playoffs were agonizing and the flameouts of 1981-1984 were terribly disappointing. I suffered through anguish of Pelle’s death, the heartbreak that was game 7 of the 87 SCF, the barren years of 89-94, the mess that was the Lindros saga, the tragic death of Tertyshny, the 2002 player revolt, the injuries and frustration of the 2004 playoffs, the 06-07 debacle, the maddening Hakstol years and of course, the passing of Ed Snider.
Yet, I’ve never felt the sense of hopelessness that I feel right now. This organization is broken at the most fundamental level. No trade, draft pick, or free agency is going to fix this. There is no magic cure. The entire franchise needs to be rebuilt from the top down. It will take time, but failure to recognize this is inexcusable. Comcast, I implore you: clean house or find someone to buy the franchise. The team, as it currently stands, does not deserve our loyalty and support. The ball is in your court, Mr. Roberts. |

Unfortunately BiggE, Mr. Roberts looks at his salary, his stock options and the money raked in from his monopoly and he could care less how many games the Flyers win.

You are so right. I remember the Stanley cup years . I feel so sorry for the flyers younger fans. This poor effortless play should not be considered acceptable. Where is GM Chuck? . Seems like he is in hiding. He should be handling this lack lack of response by the players in the locker room. There is no accountability in the locker room. |

Dude. For real. Keith Yandle should never touch NHL ice again. He absolutely, 100 percent gave up on that breakaway. He can take his “record” and shove it up right up his ass. Nah. I’m sorry folks. That was the saddest things I’ve ever seen out of a pro hockey player. That is the effort you MIGHT see in men’s league if the guys didn’t have too many beers before game time.
Straight up embarrassing. He hasn’t earned a damn thing when this whole streak thing comes to an end. i HOPE someone at the WFC has a dark sense of humor like me and makes a thing of it in front of the home fans. Can’t wait for that reaction. I hope I can describe it more intensely than “tepid”. |

When he breaks the record, it will be fraudulent in my view. The ironman streak in order to be credible, the player must earn his spot in the lineup with his play. It has been time for Keith Yandle to retire for a while. If he had any pride he would've taken himself out of the lineup. He has not played at the level of an NHL player and should've been scratched a considerable time ago. |

Here is my personal take on the interesting subject. There are 2 parts to sports coverage. One part is reporting and analysis of play. The second is interpretation and opinion.
Saying Yandle was a minus player for the 10th (?) straight game and has played 900 (?) games and is going for the all time ironman record is reporting. Saying that it is a travesty he continues to dress at the expense of giving York/Zamula valuable playing time and that is sad is an interpretation/opinion.
I personally feel it is fair to critique Bill if he omitted details that are unflattering to the Flyers in the reporting. It is not fair to critique him if he is light on the valid criticisms that be made in the second category. Often, you will see understated hints about the same in the former anyway.
My $0.02. - PT21
Bill doesn’t have to tell me they suck….I can figure that all out on my own. We can all argue about why we are here till we are blue in the face, but I’m more concerned with what’s next. There is so much blame to go around, to point the finger at any one move, trade, draft pick or person is beyond stupid. Bill does and should remain objective. I’m not sure what some expect beyond stating the obvious…he has to work with all theses guys that he’s expected to be overly critical of? This team is in a downward spiral and as G alluded today at “rock bottom”. I’m sure Bill has his personal opinions, but this is professional Bill that we get. I hope he keeps up the good work.

Well at least we have Fletch to bring this all home.
The same GM who signed Chris Stewart out of the EIHL.
The EIHL.
And then not only had him on the roster but also saw him get into a few NHL games.
And then hired, Chris Stewart of the EIHL, as a PLAYER DEVELOPMENT COACH. |

I criticize as needed. But in the public sphere, I try my best to do it factually and fairly, and take as much emotion out of it as possible. There's a right way and a wrong way to walk the tightrope. Have been told by enough people who've worked for NHL organizations (both here and elsewhere) that I do it well. If you've never done it, you really don't understand what the job entails.
What gets said in private stays private. But if you read The Five Things previews -- which go into a lot of depth -- and Postgame 5, I defy you to tell me that I cherry-pick only favorable things. Same thing if you listen to Flyers Daily. We're critical, we say that hockey is a business and failure to meet performance expectations (at any level) means changes are coming, and we call out specific issues.
For example, we spent an entire segment on how Chuck putting so many eggs in the basket of having a healthy Ryan Ellis and counting on Yandle to have something left in the tank has had a brutal effect because the pieces aren't there to work around it. We questioned AV's handling of Hart last season. We've said that, for $7 million, the Flyers have needed more than they've gotten from JVR. We've said that GMs only get so many coaches and roster changes before they're on the hot seat.
We don't scream it the heavens. We don't dwell constantly on it. We don't question any one's fundamental competency or call for anyone's head -- I ascribe to the Jay Greenberg philosophy on those matters https://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=95758.
Both Jason and I are realists, and you can read between lines of the facts that presented repeatedly. - bmeltzer
Both you and Jason do good work. Keep it up. You guys provide along with Charlie provide the most realistic thoughtful views. Don’t always agree, but that’s sports.
