Why not bring this up? It is symbolic of his moves as GM of the Flyers. He makes terrible decisions, whether trades or player signings. Do you trust him going forward? - corduroy
No I absolutely don't trust him. Just saying that signing a 4th line player to league minimum 2 years ago is irrelevant to this season and there's no use still complaining about it. Teams sign role players all the time and many don't work out. Why dwell on it?

Hakstol has coached more games in franchise history than any coach since Keenan. How pathetic is that? - PLindbergh31
And would still be coaching if the last GM had not been relieved of his duties. |

Yes, i understand but all teams make bad moves. It's a part of sports. Not every signing works out and not all players can be elite. When Stewart was here, people were acting like he was why we stunk because of his 7 minutes of ice time. It's 2 years later and we still stink. We just aren't a good team. I am by no means a Fletcher fan but harping on him signing Stewart for league minimum is pointless. - Don Nachbaur
Can you not see the forest for the trees?
Who cares about the minutes that stewart played! It is the fact that this moron on f a gm signed him, and thought it was a good idea.
I will ask again, do you trust fletcher to turn this team around? |
|
|
|
It's not being harped on. It was brought up as another issue and bad move the GM has made among many. - MJL
Understood about the GM making bad moves but Stewart's name still comes up 2 years later. It's irrelevant to the state of the current team. I agree with you about NAK, but as I mentioned in a previous thread, most on here were whining about him the past 2 years. Same for Haag....he got tons of hate for years and now people miss him.

The answer to that is a resounding no. Fans will be kept happy for the most if they just make the playoff and win a round every once in a while. Fans need to demand more and be willing to accept that fixing this will take time. With no guarantee that the process will give reasonably quick results. If they get a high pick and make it count or get lucky on some later picks, it can happen faster. Any reasonable fan should be able to look and see what this team needs. - MJL
The last GM lucked into a pick and (frank)ed it up good. |

Ha! I stated that I don't trust Fletcher and no, I don't think he can turn this team around. My point was that all teams sign role players and many don't work out. We have made many bad moves and are paying for it. I just don't think it's necessary to dwell on signing a guy 2 years ago who was here for a cup of coffee.

Interesting Bill re-tweeted a rumor reported tonight that an un named team has made offer for Chychrun ….a 1rst, a young player that was a first and a prospect that was a first. Could it be the Flyers….an over pay is right up Fletchers ally… |

And you continually miss the point. fletcher signed players of stewarts ilk, hence his decision-making capability is not the best. No one is harping on the name, it is the thought process of the signings

Hakstol had a .560 points%
Vigneault had a .564 points%
Who had the better roster?
Not saying Hakstol shouldn't have been fired sooner but I don't know how much more he could have gotten out of the roster he had some of those years.

I never understood the O’Brien pick when we picked him and I don’t understand it now. If you wanna talk about bad picks, this is it because nobody was even talking about Jay O’Brien even at the time and nobody is talking about him now. It really was an “I love lamp” moment. |

Thanks for the insight but all GMs make bad decisions. I totally agree that Fletcher is a bad GM and has made bad decisions. In a perfect world, we'd have a roster full of stand out players but with things like the salary cap and un-moveable contracts, it isn't realistic. Signings like Stewart, Thompson, etc are going to happen to any team. People on this forum act like it's the reason why we stink. 4th liners who play minimal minutes no matter the name, are not the reason this team is no good.

This all started the day they fired Hextall and Scott and Holmgren had that beyond absurd press conference where Scott said he wanted an "action bias" GM. Bob Clarke, you are the greatest player this franchise has ever had. Thank you for the glory years. What I can't thank you for though is that your recent actions have made me have to turn on you and dislike you for your recent behavior. Your services in any manner, and any level, are no longer needed. You don't know how to run a team in the modern day NHL.
Paul Holmgren, what an amazing career you had. NHL player, coach, scout, GM and team President. Amazing accomplishments. Had a good run as GM but the NHL has passed you by, You no longer know how to run a franchise in the modern day NHL. Thank you for your services but goodbye.
To any other of the alumni country club members, other than for anything ceremonial or community related, your influence and insights are no longer needed. Thank you and good bye.
To Dave Scott, maybe you're a good business man but you don't have the first clue on how to run a hockey team. You have disgraced this organization and the legacy of Ed Snider. Just plain good bye - MJL
And the post of 2022 goes to....

I didn't think it possible when the season started, but if this keeps up the Flyers have a chance at the top pick in the draft .. too bad its not next year when the generational player is available. Just the Flyers luck to get the top pick this year and pick their next Nolan Partrick, which Shane Knight has written all over him! - jd250
1. The Flyers are, unbelievably, 12 points out of being the worst team in the league but could always get the lucky ping pong ball bounce.
2. What makes you think they will be any better next year? This is not rock bottom and this will not be turned around in one offseason.
3. I think we all agree that the current brain trust will not make the necessary moves so next year will most likely be worse.

Dig deeper. The players are being brought up to show the incompetence of the current GM. That most definitely is relevant to the state of the team. You're focused on Stewart rather than on Fletcher.

The last GM drafted a player who was a consensus top 2 pick who everyone labeled a future #1 NHL center and many labeled as the most NHL ready player in the draft. |
