I am interested to see his 1st draft pick. - Reubenkincade
for sure, his entire 1st draft should tell us some things since he's joining the team mid-season and has a head scout history, I'd assume he'll have some influence for this upcoming draft |

I don't care that the guy only has 13 long days of experience but a very hot topic over the last couple of years on here has been the hiring of first time President a first time coach and a first time GM . I am just pointing out we just hired our third first time GM again.
I don't know the guy so I can't say if I like him or not. - VANTEL
It’s moot with who surrounds Allvin is much better. TL & JB had Weisbrod now that is sad & goes on FA being cheap & TL for not pushing harder. JB wasn’t the man for the front office but he was a hockey man that was forced into a role way over his head. |

You better go look again, New Toronto has won nothing in the playoffs. |

I think the lead up to the draft is a bigger deal. The moves to be made will be his big stamp. |

Rutherford was on the downslope in Pitts and has a lot of warts on his resume. I like that he is active but he does remind me a lot like Bergevin and we will find out if that is good or bad.
I get the excitement , people for years wanted the Benning regime over but I want to see how this new crew does first before getting excited.

I agree that it'll be a big deal, but JR will have a big influence on all big moves. Allvin I assume will have ore influence on the draft process/scouting process and smaller moves(Motte trade for example) |

Mine is the 1st big trade. 1st order of business is deciding if to push for the PO’s or think longer term & make roster changes. J’m with redesigning the make up & be proactive asap. - Nighthawk[/quote]
I have said many times, that I don't like the make up of this team.
I doubt the team is going the way I believe it needs to go, unfortunately |

JR has hired a much bigger & diversified front office. Delegating more to ppl in defined roles. MB was more a tyrant & stuck in Montreal facing huge expectations resulting in questionable trades & poor drafting. |

Didn’t say that but they are a force with PO success being long overdue. Cap allocation is their big enemy & Pridham is outta cards to play. That will decide their fate & how much longer Dubas is there. |

You are jumping the gun. It may be bigger and more diversified but it also has little to no experience at their current jobs. It could just mean more people asking what do I do.
Rutherford was a bit trigger happy in his last few years selling off draft picks just like Gillis and Bergevin. He also covered up scandals so tyrant might fit him also.
Again he comes with a clean slate so let's see how everyone does. |

No I claim their chances are better if they can only fix their D & its depth. Still is their big wart. |

Yes a clean slate but he identified issues & has autonomy. FA didn’t appear so inclined before. Yes it’s wait & see on the new hires but reason for optimism. No matter what it will come down to the on ice product & what happens going forward. So far it’s in the assessment phase & hiring phase. Next is the action phase. |

Pittsburgh drafted at # 58 this year and was their only pick in the top 100
The year before they drafted 52 nd and 77 in the top 100
The year before they drafted Samuel Poulin at 21 and Nathan Lagare at 77
So in the last three years they have drafted 5 players only in the top 100 of the three drafts . I don't believe any of their picks have been to great. One first rounder in three years. Sound familiar?
Edit : Rutherford joined Pittsburgh in 2014 and since that time Pitts has only had two first round picks. Kappanen in 2014 who they traded to the Leafs and traded back for with the 2020 first . The only other selection was three years ago for LHD Samuel Poulin. |

Didn't Aquilini just hire a head coach a few weeks ago?

One team was a contender (or we’re trying to stay one with Crosby). The other stunk |

No they weren't at least not the last couple of years.
Read my edit about Rutherford on my last post about his first round selections. Two first round picks since 2014. He is very much like Bergevin.

I don't think we've ever had an "experienced" GM at the helm (maybe Jack Gordon if you consider four seasons as experienced):
1. Patrik Allvin - nope
2. Jim Benning - nope
3. Mike Gillis - nope
4. Dave Nonis - nope
5. Brian Burke - one season in Hartford
6. Mike Keenan - two seasons in St. Louis
7. Pat Quinn - nope
8. Jack Gordon - four seasons in Minnesota
9. Harry Neale - nope

Wasn’t Vancouver Burke’s first GM position? AGM, deputy commissioner of the NHL, GM Canucks. |

Now do the spread of first time vs. experienced GMs league-wide |
