There's a good article out on The Athletic (!) about Allvin as GM, talking to peers and industry peeps. Gets into a good big of his background and thoughts.

Liked this quote from Rutherford, nice shot at the last regime

Sad to see a good hockey man call out another good hockey man like that publicly

Finally, I picked him up in fantasy like 2 weeks ago, but he couldn't be placed on IR so I've just had dead weight on my roster

The biggest legacy the last regime left was the farms success level. By that either picks bypassed the AHL or those who didn’t are not developing to an NHL level. Trading picks could be pointed out but that’s too convenient. The selections are more easily scrutinized. Overall the system has failed at producing talent to feed the big club.

The prospects who made the jump straight to the NHL have had mixed results. 1/2 flopped the other 1/2 has had encouraging results. That said those same players have hit a wall lately. Their early success made them darlings of the fans but they didn’t catapult that into sustained growth. Giving them the sense they were leaders going forward was premature. Only Demko & Hughes have performed as wished. Bo has been Bo. JT is a big upgrade. The D still needs work.

Yeah, AHL development needs to be better. I thought Ryan Johnson was involved with that though and he’s still sticking around so…

Does it mention the lack of experience across the board of the new front office? How it's more of the same?

We lost a lot of players a lot of different ways for nothing. Like not a single pick or prospects of any level in return. That is the biggest thing that I feel left the gaping hole.

There's an entire section dedicated to genitals and their impact on the "hockey brain": real cutting edge research out of Kazakhstan. And how Rutherford is going to keep his men focused by making them only eat Kelloggs corn flakes.

In all fairness, who was available to be developed on the farm? Benning had many picks that were/are college kids or Europeans, who want to be close to mommy, so they stay over in Europe and expect to be placed into lineup.
Also, the drafting guru Benning wasted a bunch of picks and I don't mean in trades.
A player like Rodrigo Abols could have been signed as a free-agent shortly after the draft, but Benning couldn't wait the 5 minutes and drafted him late in the draft.
Benning drafted Carl Neill and Tate Olson in the same draft and neither were even signed.
Benning was just an absolute terrible hockey guy.

You should look at the new bosses selections over the last 8 years. It wont take long seeing they averaged about three picks a year but aside from Kappanen I don't think I recognized one player
