Hextall was not going to do a complete tank and trade off everyone. In my opinion, he signed JVR to appease upper management. When looking at his moves as a whole, it was clear that he did not think the team was ready for the next step. Hextall was not perfect and he was not great. However his approach was the correct one for the team to take. They need to return to that approach. - MJL
because that fits your narrative that your Dad didn't fail. Cant you let it go with the Saint ronnie defending?
So, Farabee, Hart, Provorov, Sanheim, and Konecny all look terrible to you? Is that also true for Ersson, Sandstrom, Fedotov and Usti? What about Noah Cates? When this leadership trades some of these folks, we will be adding to the list of former Flyers who go somewhere else and win cups etc... Hexy was not perfect but this criticism misses the mark. - iamscore2day
Balance that out with all the picks that did not work out, and then adjust for the position of the draft, and you would very likely get just about what was expected. Neither good nor bad.
My prediction is a bunch of losses that'll get us in a position for a top pick but then a sudden 10 game winning streak in meaningless games at the end of the year to knock us out of reasonable chances for a good pick. Management will think this means the team is headed in the right direction and all of the staff are retained.
That'd be Flyers hockey right there. - atibus
Precisely. Followed by a flurry of moves that are destined to give the appearance that the management cares about the season that went by, but doesn't really care about putting the team in a position to win.
I don't and have never disputed that the best way to acquire elite talent is with top draft picks. I don't endorse tanking to do so and I don't want the team I root for to take that approach. - MJL
Do you think the leafs tanked to get those picks to aquire matthews, marner etc? According to your definition
The problem was paying him 7 million with term. I’m not sure which is worse…Hayes or JVR? The Flyers seem to reach or over pay in FA signings. These blunders hurt. - landros 2
Id rather hayes contract, at least he is a center. That's pretty much the only difference i see. Neither contract is good, however i think Hayes first year here, he did earn that contract. He was better than i thought he would be. But since, no one on this team has been overly good, so hard to just signal him out of the bunch. Prob more of a team issue than an individual issue.
This team wont have any big winning streak unless they get healthy which I doubt will happen. Couturier and Ellis are long term. Hayes is out for the 3rd time likely because he is rushed back and there are a number of guys on their way out by the deadline

Didn't PC win a cup in Beantown? That is not much of a stretch to get another bite at the apple. It isn't like the 2nd chance given to the guy who traded Brent Burns away for what turned out to be nothing. But hey, it isn't like he has gone on to lead a franchise to its longest losing streak in organization history. Oh, wait. That's right ... - iamscore2day
I’m not saying Fletcher was a good signing by the Flyers…for some reason you are equating the two. I’m saying Hextall deserved to be fired in Philadelphia and was given a second chance by Pittsburgh. Despite some Horrid decisions that led to Chiarelli’s firing in Boston after having success he got another chance. We all saw how that went.
