Honestly this felt more like a setup for the off-season presser where Scott retires, Fletcher moves up and Briere gets the GM slot.
just my feeling, no actual info - shekkie
Off-season presser with 39 games left in the season. What a franchise! |

No, I believe if they get the right management people and coaches in here and do a complete revamping of that, they can improve. I don't believe the Flyers philosophy of team building works in the modern day NHL. There are many, many high quality players chosen outside of the top 5 in the draft. The NHL is full of them. - MJL
Yes but you said the quality of players the flyers picked from the middle of the first is pretty much the quality a team can expect so what you are hoping is that the Flyers draft one of the few players taken later in the draft that are elite which by your own admission is a low probability event. The fact that the Flyers need multiple elite players to be able to compete, which is not just my opinion but the front offices too, means you hope the Flyers can do it multiple times. Can you see how that is a terrible plan? |

It’s bad, they actually think there is a good team here yet say that their best player is a 34 year old soon to be free agent . It’s comical. - ClaudeFather

If you read back on that exchange, he has been talking in the plural (about Dave and Chuck).... |

Tremendous. The players being injured time and time again with the same injury is bad luck. Chuckles going to throw a penny in a fountain, or pick a 4 leaf clover to turn it around. |

Normally I dismiss these pressers since they talk a lot but really say nothing. Make no mistake, this management team remains clueless. "We'll be back in it next year", speaks volumes...they really believe it. This statement shows they are circling the wagons and don't have the cajones to do what must be done. Again, Scott is not who should be the face of the franchise. Its truly hopeless until this group is replaced. |

We all know we need to be sellers but what kind of confidence do you have in The organization if Fletcher is still the one making these decisions? I think we need to sell at the deadline, make a trade or two in the summer for players you don’t see a future here, and ice a pretty bad team for 2-3 years. Evaluate what kind of talent you get from drafting high and assess the best way to move forward. - ClaudeFather
Unfortunately, no confidence whatsoever that the correct decisions are made.
I would like to tear this Organization down and hire a bunch of people that don't know anything about hockey, similar to USSR post WW2, rethink/invent a new way to attack the game.
It would put us on a 20 year track, now i can't even see a track. |

Can anyone please direct me to the link or site that will carry todays load of stoic meaningless drivel corporate hockey speak that is supposed to be a press conference . I want to finish my 2nd cup of coffee so I dont throw the mug at the device and break it while I am cursing at it and the words being spoken. - RajaAmpat

Exactly, yet the fanbase lost patience during the Hextall years. You couldn't handle it then do you're going to tell me you can handle it now? - MJL
We couldve handled the hextall years if he had the correct approach on how to build a competitive team. Its everyone knowing what he was doing wasnt going to work.

Committing to drafting and developing is never a terrible plan when you're in the situation the Flyers are in. Like I said previously, the league is full of really good players that were drafted outside of the top 5. The Flyers have an issue with development of players. They need to change how they do everything, which is what Hextall was trying to do. The issue is not that plan. The issue is based on what I'm hearing about the press conference, they have no plans to adopt that philosophy. |

I would hope for biblical plagues to hit the front office like in the "Ten Commandments" but they would be too stupid to realize it was happening as a sign to change their ways... Im rooting for the Wild/Jets and hating everyone else |

Look, lets be honest, nothing Fletcher said today would have mattered to you, your mind is made up. Everything Fletcher said today echoed what I have posted over the past two seasons on this forum, so for me I loved everything he said! |

I liked Fletchers answers for the most part, felt like he side stepped some questions that would have thrown others under the bus which is expected.
Did not like anything Dave Scott had to say. Regardless of people's opinions of Fletcher you can clearly see his hands are tied by what Dave Scott expects.
2-3 pieces is ridiculous especially with some guys on their way out. There is no one on this roster capable of stepping in for Giroux. Maybe its a blessing in disguise. Maybe we will be worse next season and get Bedard |

If they trade Giroux and Ristolainen, what do you think they're going to attempt to do with that cap space?

After today I think Ristolainen is getting resigned.

Even with everyone healthy this is absolutely a bottom 8 team once Giroux is gone. I hope they realize that. |
