Fletcher is the ultimate hockey lifer and go along to get along type of GM. He isn’t going to piss of his fellow GMs with an offersheet. Expect free agents and aging stars on big contracts other teams want to dump if he is going after elite players. - psuhockey
we shall see. I think most of this conference is just a smoke show GM speak. But we'll know for sure in the offseason. I think RFA or work a trade to get an RFA another team may not be able to afford.

What #1 center or #1 defenseman preferably right handed is an Rfa this offseason? |

This organization is a complete joke. And other teams are absolutely laughing at us.
So Scott is going to double down on Fletcher, who is going to wheel and deal this team into contention. Again.
At this point it is comical how out of touch these guys are. |

Im rooting for a new team until this mess sorts itself out.
Rooting for the Flyers now is like being a Washington Football Team fan. What’s the point. - hereticpride

Just watched the press conference and nothing said shocks me. It’s what o expected them to say.
What I don’t understand is why fletch mentioned that they need to re tool as well as saying that the intent was/is to keep rr. I’d think the plan would be to jettison rr braun g Jones and perhaps some other via trade. I see them acquiring high end talent via UFA a La Johnny g.
They’re not doing a rebuild and that doesn’t shock me.
What’s also clear to me is that coots should not have been playing at all for like a month. I’d be shutting he and Ellis down for the year. |

They will never win with this front office group
No point in continuing to follow this team until they completely clean house or the team is sold.

So the guy who "rebuilt" this team the last 3 years will go ahead and rebuild it again. Makes sense.
Why would Jonny G want to come here? He is getting paid either way. Have to assume he wants to try to win. Anyone who signs here at this point is looking for a payday.

The last thing this team needs is bloated contracts tbh. Blessing in disguise |

Its all hindsight, many gms passed over a lot of the names mentioned - xShoot4WarAmpsx
ALL of them did at some point in each draft. Even 24 GM's passed over Pasta.
Hitting on later round picks is pure luck. Yes, the scouts had the guy on their radar, but after multiple rounds and multiple picks, to have a really good player fall in to your lap requires so many moving parts you have no control over. Too many other teams have to pass multiple times.
To say that was the plan all along and is a testament to drafting skill is bullpoop. If you knew he was going to be that good as you claim, why did you wait? Why take the chance he will be picked earlier, even after you had multiple chances to pick him?
Detroit is a perfect example. They got extremely lucky with Datsyuk and Zetterberg. ESPECIALLY when you look at who they drafted earlier in those same drafts. Detroit's drafts in those years SUCKED. If they don't luck out getting those two their fortunes would have been quite different. Don't tell me that was their plan all along. If they thought they would be that good they would have picked them way earlier.
Drafting a star outside the first round is and always will be a crap shoot. There are too many outside factors that teams have no control over to make it any other way.

He has no answers. To be fair he is speaking in GM talk….but if his idea is to build up the hockey op’s? You’ve advocated a tear down have you not? Where did he talk about that? - landros 2
I posted last week that I felt Check needed more voices and more internal accountability to the different areas of Hockey Ops, and pointed to Tampa's executive structure as an example. It appears Chuck has already realized this and has been in the process of building this out, and I am very pleased he has also seen this and is trying to address it. |

At this point, would it be a violation on my part to allow my 9 year old son to start rooting for a new team? Or, asked differently, is it child abuse to force him to continue being a Flyers fan knowing very well what lies ahead these next few years? - Big_E_88
No rules when it comes to teams. Go for it! |

It’s really despicable what this franchise has been reduced to under Scott.
With no changes in sight.
All we heard were excuses, and a confirmation on trying to retool yet again.
There are men in this franchise who would collapse if the word rebuild was ever mentioned. Only fools will support this vision. |

Precisely. Likelihood of that outcome: it is not zero but very, very close. |

Watched the press conference. Dave Scott has no presence. No gravitas. Doesn’t sound like the Chairman of an NHL franchise, let alone one with such a history. Not even the slightest hint that he’s in charge. The Chairman needs to be the HMFIC without question.
CF seems to have said a lot without saying a lot. A couple takeaways:
1-G is likely gone at the deadline
2-Risto is likely gone (he had to build him up as an asset being a big physical defense worth something)
3-He ain’t thrilled with some of the former prospects development save for Bee and the ones he picked
4-There will be a new coach and staff in the offseason
5-Coots and Ellis will likely be shut down (had to say the right things so no one accuses him of playing the LTI)

We like or core?? Oh lord. - landros 2
When this veteran core is healthy it is a good starting point.
Carter Hart - G
Ellis -D
Provey - D
York -D
Couts - C
Hayes - C
Atkinson - F
Farabee - F
Laughton - F
Fletcher acknowledged there is a lack of top end talent here, but none the less these are good players when healthy that you can build around. |

I dont think he or his wife like it here and he is stringing this out - RajaAmpat
The Eagles used to be like this. No one would come here. Good luck managing the salary cap when FAs want to be overpaid like Hayes to come to this hot mess. I thought 13 losses in a row would be rock bottom. Guess not. |
