Watched the press conference. Dave Scott has no presence. No gravitas. Doesn’t sound like the Chairman of an NHL franchise, let alone one with such a history. Not even the slightest hint that he’s in charge. The Chairman needs to be the HMFIC without question.
CF seems to have said a lot without saying a lot. A couple takeaways:
1-G is likely gone at the deadline
2-Risto is likely gone (he had to build him up as an asset being a big physical defense worth something)
3-He ain’t thrilled with some of the former prospects development save for Bee and the ones he picked
4-There will be a new coach and staff in the offseason
5-Coots and Ellis will likely be shut down (had to say the right things so no one accuses him of playing the LTI) - mikeyo27

Just to be clear I was saying that Risto cost the Flyers a 1st, a 2nd, and Hagg. I do agree he's not getting that back. - Flyers_01
Oh right. I agree.

If Coots, Hayes and Ellis are going to be out for the rest of the year I hope they use that LTIR space to help other teams facilitate deals. They could add picks that way.
The only real thing you can hope is that the money they claimed to have invested in scouting, player development and analytics will lead to a better hit rate on players developing into more skilled NHL players.
That is all I got. Overall what I expected but still somehow disappointed. |

When this veteran core is healthy it is a good starting point.
Carter Hart - G
Ellis -D
Provey - D
York -D
Couts - C
Hayes - C
Atkinson - F
Farabee - F
Laughton - F
Fletcher acknowledged there is a lack of top end talent here, but none the less these are good players when healthy that you can build around. - jd250
Doesnt it make you wonder how pitt stayed above 500 with Syd and Geno out, and we are awful and we still had our main man Giroux. Coaching.....

Plus we could always hold money on a Giroux and Risto trade and that could get us the firsts we want if we didnt get them outright.

wut - THE BLACK HAND
Someone called Risto stupid for telling a reporter that he thought the Flyers were headed in the right direction. While I also disagree, what is he suppose to say publicly? |

Dale Tallon? I don't know why he gets the credit for building the 'Hawks and the Panthers.
He hit on some slam dunk draft picks, but the rest of his draft record is pretty spotty. He wasted lottery picks on Cam Barker, Jack Skille, Erik Gudbranson. He fell into the Lawson Crouse trap. He ruined Kyle Beach (and possibly others) by hiring and allowing Aldrich to run rampant.
He gave up on Trocheck too soon. He thought Hyman was only worth Greg McKegg. And he let Marchessault go to Vegas for free after a 30-goal campaign to protect a grossly overpaid Nick Bjugstad for some reason.
And the QO thing in Chicago that got him fired... gross negligence. - Tomahawk
And he has one of the best teams in the league right now. Imagine what couldve been .

Very encouraged by the press conference. As someone who has enjoyed the last 10 years of flyers hockey, I’m happy with the direction of this franchise. |

No need to bring them back this year. Agree 100%. The rest of this year should be about moving out parts that are not part of the future and playing the youngsters.
I hope they did not miss the window to trade Jones. They have a light schedule coming up. 7 games in 24 days I believe.

You can do that for sure, but they will not be eligible to be on LTIR.

The fact they have no answer on Ellis or any idea about a time frame after 3 months is rediculous. - landros 2
Poile bent chuckles over on the Ellis trade
Arizona then went in for sloppy seconds getting Ghost, who is a puck-moving D man, which chuckles said the team needs and hopes ginger york can fill
Adams then got thirsty thirds on the rr trade
Three GMs rammed chuckles ass in a matter of six days and he has a blank check for the future
you have got to be kidding me?!?!?!? |

The only dman to net anything close to that last TDL was Savard, and he was double retained. Late 1st + 3rd.
All the other dmen went for a 3rd-rounder or less. |

For the flyers or in general. Well holmgren got us to the cup, so that was good. Its a results business and as many might not like the blunders you have to give him credit for getting to the cup. Grabbing pronger was the exact move they needed.
That's how i judge it. People like the shannaplan and dubas.. think that's the way to go, but they might be entertaining to watch, but havent proven anything yet in the playoffs. So i would say that isnt the way to go. Pretty sure if they get bounced the 1st round or two, changes will be happening there.

I posted last week that I felt Check needed more voices and more internal accountability to the different areas of Hockey Ops, and pointed to Tampa's executive structure as an example. It appears Chuck has already realized this and has been in the process of building this out, and I am very pleased he has also seen this and is trying to address it. - jd250

Really? So Hart is not a top end goalie? Ellis is not a true top pairing defenseman? Couts is not one the best all around centers in the game? Atkinson has not demonstrated his worth as both a shoot first forward and a good PKer? Farabee doesn't have the ceiling of being a 30 goal scorer?
I know things are bad right now, but honestly, if you can't recognize that the Flyers do have some good veteran players then you are not being honest or realistic! - jd250
You have to set a timeline, and work backwards from that. Those players you mentioned are not dregs. But the point is they're not good enough at this present time to carry the team, and by the time the team is ready to contend, they will be past their prime.

I clicked a random page and saw MJL ripping the team using micro stats and immediately went into cardiac arrest |
