Has there been any scuttlebutt over the nature of Couturiers injury other than "Upper Body"?
He had that dislocated rib last season and covid this season.
I wonder if either or both have contributed to his current "upper body" issues.
Between him and Ellis' mysterious injuries, so many questions need to be raised. - MBFlyerfan
Couturier apparently has dealt with multiple issues this season, from what I heard recently. But I still don't know the specific "upper body" ailment that has him on LTIR.
He's at least been back doing some rehab skating.

Thank god the rest of the league doesn’t know what he’s out long term for. 🙄 |

I don’t think even they can (frank) it up if they wanted to. This roster is terrible. And once G gets traded I don’t see them having a good chance of winning many games for the rest of the season. |

He also signed Gustafsson as insurance for Gostisbehere last season. Both moves were an error in judgement by the GM as Gostisbehere was clearly the better player than both. However he had to have cap space to trade for his other disaster in Ristolainen. It all shows a lack of ability to properly assess players and personnel moves. - MJL
Ristolainen has been far from a "disaster" although it's a sunken cost if he's not re-signed. We can agree to that. On-ice, I get that he's a divisive player, and one side isn't going to convince the other. So we'll just have to agree to disagree on that part.

I don't think many have an issue with RR. The issue will be if he is paid more than he should be and gets term by the flyers.
Honestly Bill what would you consider a fair deal for both he if were to resign in terms of money and term? Thanks.

There is no question that Fletcher was looking at Yandle as a replacement for Gostisbehere as an offensive puck moving PP defenseman. It was a colossal blunder. Now the team is playing a prized prospect on his off side deferring to a player who should be retired. - MJL
Lets not overinflate the impact of playing York on the right side. He is playing, that is the most important thing and gaining experience and showing he belongs. The fact that he gets practice at both sides is a good thing in the long run. |

As a player disaster is a bit of hyperbole. It's the overall judgement of the GM and what he gave up for a player in the final year of his deal and is a pending UFA.
On the ice, I see a player who is physical but is not physically effective. He often hits after the puck is gone taking himself out of the play while a shot against or a scoring chance is going on. He often battles a player around the net after a shot or a scoring chance. His physical play does not prevent or reduce shot attempts or scoring chances. Defensively he bleeds scoring chances and goals against. Fans hear the boards rattle or see him push a player around and get all excited. He has one gear when he has somebody lined up for a hit and another casual gear when defending. He lacks hockey sense and an ability to read and prevent plays.
With the puck, his puck management is solid. He doesn't give away the puck that often. He makes a decent first pass. However he is not aggressive enough on the attack. It is clear to me that his offensive totals in Buffalo were elevated due to his role and his ice time.
Overall he is poor defensively and in positioning. Mediocre offensively. He is a very talented player with all the tools to be a really good player from the neck down. The faster than can move away from this player the better. Hopefully they can recoup some assets from this ill advised and poorly thought out player move. |

It's another example how the Flyers have made poor decisions and placed winning, which they have no chance at, above the development of a key young player. It's inexcusable.

Then let it be a sunken cost. Only compounding things worse than they are. Plus he's going to want more than what he's worth so might as well take the best offer come March. |

Bill, with MJL its easy to understand. Fletcher traded picks to get Risto, picks that to MJL might be the next Kucherov or Point, so that is why there is so much hyperbole about Risto being a disaster. At the start of the season I was open-minded about Risto and defended him quite a bit. But after watching him for about 40 games I just don't think he is a defenseman I would pursue for my team if I were GM. Yes he hits people and does separate players from the puck, and I like the fact Risto does not chase people around his zone like Braun or Yandle do, but he is not good in a lot of other areas. Recently we have seen him make too many passive plays and bad decisions on the PK, his skating is not great, his offense is limited and his ability to move the puck up and out of the zone is not good (a combination of poor decision making and generally a poor breakout scheme). I really hope Risto decides to move on, because yes we will lose some assets in the gamble, but we will be better in the long run. |

Not really. But I don't really care what is fair to him.
Personally I hope he is dealt at the deadline and we can recoup maybe a 2nd, or a 2nd and 3rd.
I would be over the moon if we could get a pick and prospect. But I don't think we get anything resembling what we traded for him.

Wait, I don't think Fletcher is putting winning ahead of developing a young player. York started playing because the Flyers had no other choice at the time give the defenseman in Covid protocol. I think Fletcher would have preferred York stay on the Phantoms with Zamula this year. But since he has been playing York has shown he belongs in the NHL now, thus you have to keep him up here and let him continue his development on the Flyers. |

That's interesting that you think his puck management is solid because as I just posted I have seen him too many times separate a player from the puck, get the puck and then just try to jam it up the boards which results in a turnover. I wonder if this is on Risto or its the breakout scheme of the Flyers, because pretty much every defenseman except York seems to try to use the boards way too much and not look towards the middle of the ice. |

The problem i see is everyone makes bad plays, see adam fox turn the puck over last night? Norris winner. To some flyers fans that would be totally unacceptable, and be harped on here for hours. I find with RR, every mistake is under a microscope, and everything good is ignored. He has his warts for sure. But he fills a need that no other D we have is filling.
One of our biggest issues last year was we were easy to play against and push overs. He helps that

There is still a disconnect here. You seem to think that those who want Frost to play with better players is because his problems are due to who he plays with. That is not correct. Frost's issues are his issues. I can speak for myself but I want him to play with better players because I believe it will help him find his game and help him gain confidence. Allow him to use his strengths as a player. - MJL
So you're saying Frost is a weenie that needs other players to help build him up? Hmm, Mayhew doesn't seem to need that. York doesn't seem to need that. I wonder if Frost is tough enough mentally to hack it in the NHL? |

The GM needs to not focus on what he paid. That is over and done. You make the best you can.
Be curious what Haag gets, probably a 4th.
