I know. I don't see the point of secrecy at this stage. - bmeltzer
Anyone who watched Couts skating a week or two before he was out of the lineup could see it was a core injury, similar to Hayes last year. If it is a core injury, I would get Couts surgery now because its a year to fully recover. |

Not really. But I don't really care what is fair to him.
Personally I hope he is dealt at the deadline and we can recoup maybe a 2nd, or a 2nd and 3rd.
I would be over the moon if we could get a pick and prospect. But I don't think we get anything resembling what we traded for him. - MBFlyerfan
Im praying that GM's who watched last year's playoffs start to get enamored with the idea that they need to be heavier and that provides a trading catalyst. Risto at 50% retained would have to be appealing to an Edmonton or Toronto if it's only costing a 1st round pick of 25 or greater.
Note: I said praying...didnt say Im counting on it. lol |

I’d rather resign risto for a couple years no more and trade sanheim. They’ll get more for sanheim. This team is doomed anyway for a few years |

The problem i see is everyone makes bad plays, see adam fox turn the puck over last night? Norris winner. To some flyers fans that would be totally unacceptable, and be harped on here for hours. I find with RR, every mistake is under a microscope, and everything good is ignored. He has his warts for sure. But he fills a need that no other D we have is filling.
One of our biggest issues last year was we were easy to play against and push overs. He helps that - bradster
He does help that, but how much do you want to pay for that? I think you can get this without paying $5-6M per. |

for a 3rd pair deployment he would make someone very happy that has a weak D or even as injury insurance.

Risto's remaining cap hit at the deadline is minimal, thus I would not retain any salary if I were the Flyers. |

What??? That is the sweetener to get the cap teams to bite who want to go all in.
Imagine you are the Vegas Knights knowing that next year you have to blow it all up because you have to fit Eichel under the cap. So you offer them a hypothetical package of Risto and G at both 50% retained....sure you may have to take back a contract but maybe you get a 1st and Brendan Brisson thrown back in.
Vegas would be near unbeatable because they could also bring in Eichel at playoff time with zero cap ramifications. They almost have to make this type of move because their team needs to be broken apart next year to be cap compliant. |

Bill, with MJL its easy to understand. Fletcher traded picks to get Risto, picks that to MJL might be the next Kucherov or Point, so that is why there is so much hyperbole about Risto being a disaster. At the start of the season I was open-minded about Risto and defended him quite a bit. But after watching him for about 40 games I just don't think he is a defenseman I would pursue for my team if I were GM. Yes he hits people and does separate players from the puck, and I like the fact Risto does not chase people around his zone like Braun or Yandle do, but he is not good in a lot of other areas. Recently we have seen him make too many passive plays and bad decisions on the PK, his skating is not great, his offense is limited and his ability to move the puck up and out of the zone is not good (a combination of poor decision making and generally a poor breakout scheme). I really hope Risto decides to move on, because yes we will lose some assets in the gamble, but we will be better in the long run. - jd250
Braun is arguably the teams best defensive defenseman. He is rarely out of position and his reads are solid. Mentioning him And Yandle is the same breath is disqualifying

That's interesting that you think his puck management is solid because as I just posted I have seen him too many times separate a player from the puck, get the puck and then just try to jam it up the boards which results in a turnover. I wonder if this is on Risto or its the breakout scheme of the Flyers, because pretty much every defenseman except York seems to try to use the boards way too much and not look towards the middle of the ice. - jd250
Look at the giveaway numbers. He doesn't make a lot of errant direct giveaways.

If he's so respected, some playoff team should trade for him and play him in every single game instead of Philly. - Feanor
It’s not about if anyone wants him or not. Hockey tries to sell tradition and records. He’s currently on a record. So the Flyers and the league are gonna sell this story. Seeler for example sell none of this. |

I agree, he isnt cheap for that. But who is? Good physical D....nurse? 9.5, Seth Jones.....9.5. How much do you think a good physical D man costs? So do we settle for an OK physical D for $6?

Tell you what. If it’s that simple to sit Yandle. Apply for the job as GM. It’s that simple, right? Otherwise you’re just another idiot on hockeybuzz spouting nonsense. |

So you're saying Frost is a weenie that needs other players to help build him up? Hmm, Mayhew doesn't seem to need that. York doesn't seem to need that. I wonder if Frost is tough enough mentally to hack it in the NHL? - jd250
Mayhew doesn't seem to need that? Then why is he 29 years old and never been a regular in the NHL? He is a career minor leaguer who has played 27 NHL games in his life.
I'm being kind by even replying to this. |

1) No state taxes so he'd actually get a raise
2) Eichel, Patches, Stone, Marchassault, Pietrangelo, Reilly Smith, McNabb, Theodore...and the list goes on. Lehner at goal. Add G to that mix and it's an all star team for god's sake.
3) It's Vegas baby

Usually you say he only has played 27 games when you think we are being hard on someone and you want people to wait a few more years to see if he can turn into a good player lol
. You just did the switcheroo

Agreed. If the opportunity to trade any UFA on this team is there, and retaining any amount of salary will increase the return in that deal at all, then it should be done. |

In what universe is an impending UFA RHD gonna accept 2-years and/or sub-market rate? Are you people being serious? I can't tell anymore...
