Byfield is highly skilled and an excellent skater (not just "fast for a big guy"). He isn't particularly physical but he is big and strong. - bmeltzer
Hey Bill. I read Arizona only has six players signed for next year. Could JVR be a candidate for them ? Also, your thoughts on Edmonton picking up Kane. Seems like they need defense and a goalie. |

Frost will really have a test today. Kings 3rd line center is the Byfield kid, he is 6'5 monster with a bit of skill he has only played four games...so we will see. - konalover711
Would love to have this kid. The other day when I suggested Giroux for Byfield was taken out of context. My point was, depending on how close or how desperate a team like the Kings for example are, you gotta take their best center prospect if you can get one in return. |

he actually had a good stretch of 20 games or so in the Q after we drafted him. Thats all he has shown. 20 games is an anomoly apparently. - bradster
Also had 10 points in his first 13 AHL games before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. The next year, started out the season with six points (1g. 5a) in the first seven games. Not too long after that, he reinjured his shoulder, missed a month and was ultra-tentatitve thereafter.
It's been a repeating pattern: Tease with a hot streak, get injured and then play timidly and ultra conservative upon return. |

When’s the last time a prospect like Byfield was traded at the deadline for a rental? Please give some examples. |

Agree re: Kane.
Flyers could either retain cap hit on JVR -- even a 50 percent retention is better cap-wise than a buy out plus he'd be off the cap after next season -- or buy out.

Well excuse me while I look up the history of every trade deadline ever. My point is, the Flyers can’t afford to miss on a deal for Giroux. |

Different situation than with Ghost. The Flyers insisted on no retention with Ghost, so they had to include assets. With JVR, it'd be significant retention. |

Filip Forsberg is the only name I can think of in recent years, although not a center but a bad move by Washington. Gretzky was moved from the Kings to the Blues at the deadline, no? |

That’s a great point but be realistic in the return. Generally all NHL trade returns have been an “A” asset (1st rd pick or good prospect) and “B” (2nd rd pick or projected bottom half of roster prospect) and something else. Sometimes the “B” asset can be upgraded into an “A” if the team takes a cap dump but that’s been pretty much the return for every trade that I can remember in recent years. Top prospects are seldom traded because teams love the cheap salaries to round out their team and guys the level of Byfield, #2 overall pick with elite upside, are never traded anymore especially for a rental. |

Byfiled is about as untouchable a prospect that's out there. Claude is great but that's a 100% no go trade proposal. Byfield's game has improved a ton since last year's 6 game cameo. He isn't floating anymore. And like Bill pointed out, he's a big body with great hands and acceleration. He also plays solid defense and will dig pucks out of the corners. Kid will be a future Selke nominee. |

You are not getting Byfield for Giroux no Matter how desperate they are. To even suggest this is absurd. |

Forsberg was traded in 2013. Teams have become much better at understanding the salary cap in the last 9 years knowing the value of cheap elcs. |

As he grows even more into his body this kid is a cornerstone for the kings for the next decade. Not sure a top end first line…but easily top 6 forward who can do it all. He’s huge, he can skate like the wind and has a pro shot. Pipe dream that he is actually traded in the next few years unless he flops like our former # 2 pick. |

So are you saying if the "wrong" team shows up early, then maybe there's a chance? - Bendecko
I can definitely see De'Aaron Fox blowing by the Flyers defense |

A team, like the kings, depending on how desperate they are, you take their best center prospect. Where is the confusion? You made a dumb statement, these are the replies you’ll get. |

No, these are the responses you get when you’re you. Miserable. I threw a name and a team out there as an example. It doesn’t mean that team or that player. The point as you missed (no surprise) the Flyers cannot miss on trading Claude Giroux. |
