Aside from being from Philly, why would he want to go into the start of a rebuild ? Makes no sense. He's going to have plenty of better options to win.

If JG stays, chucky stays. And really as for paying these players chances are it works out, too bad about monny, although Calgary probably did get his best years, he will sign somewhere else for probably what he makes now long as it doesnt weight down Calgary. Time will tell and more games and more games I like the team they ice right now......I dont think Tre is going to make a big deal, he never really does it gets talked about and nothing happens.

Why is being from the area even relevant to the conversation? There are always rumors about players from NJ and PA wanting to come home. Same with rumors about coaches. Really? Why? Great fan base, maybe, but that's not exclusive to Philly. Winning franchise? Nope. Cheese steaks...meh. Bobby Clarke...seriously? He is irrelevant to any conversation except the past. Want to become a winning team again? End the nepotism and stop dwelling in the past are good starts.

Do you remember Taylor Hall...born in Calgary and leaves at age 12 for Ontario. His family is settled in Ontario. His fiance and her family are in Ontario. His massive lake home is in Ontario. His charity is based in Ontario. Sure seems like he's going to sign with an Eastern team. Toronto has no room and Ottawa is in a rebuild, but look for him to sign somewhere in the northeast. Nope. Non-stop posts about coming home to Calgary where he basically has zero ties. Tavares is one example. Dozens of others where the logic fails.

Giroux leaving has zero to do with JG coming to Philly.

Take a look at Philly's salary cap next year. They won't be able to afford him.

Claude Giroux seems like a great guy, but calling him the second best captain in team history is a serious disrespect to Dave Poulin. Heck, I'd take Lindros and Primeau over him in that category. He's probably a top-5 based on longevity, but no way is he second best.

If Philly trades Giroux, they might as well go full rebuild at this point.

Trading Giroux and then signing Johnny G would be a completely inept thing to do.

with not being a Philly fan, I say go for it.

Flyers need cap space to build an NHL caliber roster, with Couturier and Farabee kicking in next season on top of a handful of other uncomfortable long term deals. No way losing Giroux’s 8+million and adding Gaudreau is going to make the cap situation better. The depth will be awful. He’s practiced his entire life to be an elite hockey player, so he’s not going to come home to Philly and sign a discount for like 4 million. He will go for 9 and get it elsewhere. Long term deals die in Philly.

He is going to get paid regardless. Hayes was not. Plus he hs already made some good coin.

Unless, which with the flyers GM is possible, it is say 2 million more per year I see him staying far away from philly.

Hayes was going to get paid regardless. He was the 2nd best C that FA behind Duchene in a pretty shallow pool. Analysts were already predicting he would get 6.5 mill.

Why would it be inept? Flyers issue this season has been depth among some other things. Half their team right now are guys that started in the AHL. Flyers need more top end talent and Gaudreau is a guy that fills that need. The reality is the Flyers have Couturier, Ellis, Hayes and Atkinson on a closing window. Flyers can rebuild this season using UFAs as trade bait but they wont have that opportunity going forward. These guys are on long term deals with high cap hits. A lot of teams are at the cap limit.

Realistically the Flyers will deal Giroux, Ristolainen, Braun and look to see if they can move JVR with just 1 year left and then fill the holes in the lineup. Biggest disappointment with the team is the development of the younger players. Flyers are expecting more out of guys like Sanheim, Provorov, Konecny and Frost

He wasn't going to get what the flyers gave him. You disagree. No problem.

"If you never thought Gaudreau would stay in Calgary it's simply due to not paying any attention. He has said a million times that he loves the city and wants to stay. You repeatedly link players to their childhood place of birth and you get it wrong over and over. Hall never went to Calgary. Pietrangelo never went to Toronto. Seth Jones didn't go to Colorado. Carey Price didn't get claimed by Seattle. "

Winning does matter. If the Leafs were bottom feeders, I doubt Tavares goes out of his way to sign, despite his Borje Salming poster from the 80's...

On that note, anyone remember this?
