Although François Gagnon confirmed Petry asked for a trade I'm not so sure GM's are lining up for him especially not if they've sent scouts to watch him recently. Nevermind the whole Monty debacle in which he had a front row seat, his whole game right now is one giveaway after another. If I'm another GM, to even be considering him I would need some of his cap hit off the table.
- habfanforever

but that's my point. no one is going to look at his play this year. they're going to look at his body of work and think it's more likely the circumstances are affecting his play. that, and GM's have networks. they ask around, back channel, etc. they know what's up with the player. and they also know that this is a chance to buy low on him. im not suggesting there will be a bidding war and Montreal will come away with a treasure trove. but he'll bring something of value.

as for cap retention, i can see this happening but more so because a lot of teams are tight up on it and can't fit him in otherwise. but in that case, retaining cap only adds to his value and the potential return.

i guess we'll see.

100% agreed. GMs don't look at the past 3 months, they look at the past 3 years.

nah… as a Kid was rooting for the Cowboys in the 90s...

Kinda liked The Bucs of Waren Sapp, the Lions of Sanders…

Then we really liked Drew Brees with the saint…

Then LDT with the Chiefs, ya know cause he from here and the nicest guy ever

So ya know, I like Football but its 4th on my list behind Hockey, baseball and yes I know : Tennis (played a great deal of it), so no favorite team

I guess everyone is tradable. I just wouldn't expect to get fair value back though.

I don't get people trying to announce it for him. He's earned the right to say it himself. Part of me thinks he still thinks he can come back and win again next year and history says he isn't crazy so he hasn't 100% decided. Either that or he wants the last of his spotlight pro sports moments
- Takemedrunkimhome

100%, but its just people in this era trying to break news still or being attention whore

I took me 5 seconds to say : I'll believe it when Tom will say so himself

I'm sure he not decided as yes he can make the playoff again

well, the return would be better if he was playing like he did the past 2-3 years, but he should still bring back a good return imo. right handed dmen able to get 40+ points, on a decent contract... many teams should be interested which should increase the price.

Roger is my favorite in the big 3 but I dont think he wins one other slam

As for the last part, its all on him, what an idiot...

The funny part is the French open told him no already

Edit : so whats his plan, make 2 out of 4 slam only the next 2 years ?

At least they avoided the dog and pony show. That was the dumb part of all of this. If the Aussie government just said he couldn't go...cool...but they let him in, (frank)ed him over, he won his case and then they used emergency powers to overrule his case with leaked documents about them already planning to never let him play. That's (frank)ing evil.

Just tell him to (frank) off and let it go (like the French).

they didn't let him in because he filed the wrong paperwork. and then all the crap about his covid test came out, which he either lied about the dates or clearly was out in public breathing covid all over everyone. the whole thing was a debacle but come on. he's no blameless victim in all this.

Not sure this is a trade that happens before the deadline, if ever.

His contract is fairly sizeable, and with flat cap and teams that might want him right up against it, not sure the Habs are looking to take back a big contract to make it work (unless it comes with something amazing).

So who knows how people feel once the off season starts and the realities of the draft / Cap / free agency happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if the trade happens this week.
with 3 more years on his deal, teams who are not sure to make the playoffs this year but want to compete next year could be interested.
most likely in the summer yes, but considering the personal situation of Petry, the sooner the better imo.

One thing I will give new management credit for....at least they seem honest with the fan base. Injuries, player personnel and what might happen with them.... it's a lot better then upper or lower body injury, should be week to week.
I get part of Petry's problem. No kids or family here, and he very much seemed like a family person. But, even if you want out, man you got to play better. It's a shame how bad he looks now compared to last year.
But I like the gms path. See who's in it to see this through as a hab, and from that who they want to keep. If it's not a check on both criteria, see ya. Part of me thinks the 2023 draft is a priority for them to.
